Fairly minor, but the last two days the SienaMBB Instagram page has had a lot of short video content on its story of the guys working out both on the court and in the weight room. Not much you can take away from them, but fun to see a little extra content this time of year.

All eyes on 'get up Gary'.
If he's a stud, depth matters a hell of a lot less.
My dream is for him to do for us this year something near what Nico did his frosh year.
Dream scenario would be something like this:
FG% = 44% 3pt% = 33% FT% = 75% RPG = 4.5+ A/TO = ~1 to 1 or just under Stls = 50+ blks = 15+
That would be HUGE for this team.

He was a very good rebounder in HS/Prep....I could see him averaging 8/9 PPG and 4 RPG with a couple of steals per game. If Harris contends for ROY - Siena will win the MAAC. Print it.

Also, I actually wonder if Mahala can now give us some minutes..he has some physical attributes. He intrigues me as a sleeper who could step up to fill some mins if needed..

If Darwiche is gonna be in rehab all summer, overweight, and less athletic anyway....and Hein can't score... going with a taller, more athletic 6-5 Mahala for a few mins might be a sneaky pick. I just have no idea what his shooting is like.

Ah, well that would explain the freshman fifteen.

Ah, well that would explain the freshman fifteen. Pretty evident to see based on who we are recruiting and recruited this year that George has been recruited over and will continue to be. I would look for this to be his last year at Siena and then either head back to Europe or drop down to low D1 or d2 to get film tape to play oversees

If we are playing a walk on significant minutes we have mucho problems. I know you dont like Hein ( and you're right he hasn't much offense) But the kid is more than likely going to start the year getting 15 min a game-- so I hope he holds the fort down. Carm seems to have a lot of confidence in him. I like his experience, like the fact he puts a lot of effort into his defense, and is a team first type player. He kind of reminds me of a Kyle Downey type guy ( I know he looks nothing like him) But Kyle had pretty lousy stats his first 2 or 3 years and was still able to play 15 min a game on some of Fran's greats teams. Need Matt to come in- play good D, dont turn the ball over and hit open shots( that's the part I worry about) As for Darwhice-- this is make or break year for him- he was thrown to wolves last year and played almost entire year with injuries- had zero time to adjust to American game. Another kid I'm not expecting much from- but will keep an open mind on him

He'll probably just be more stopgap type guy until the starters come back in. Like I said before, he may shoot like Mo White but he doesn't shoot as often as Mo White...so that's good. But teams will likely play off him even more than Smithen and that won't help things either. And he's likely not as athletic nor overall impactful on D as Smithen was so...there's only so much we'll probably get from him. Bottomline, he'll probably hurt us overall when he's out there. His +/- and ortg vs. drtg have been historically net negatives. Hopefully, he just doesn't hurt us so much that it costs us the game.

We haven’t had an athlete like Harris in a long time! Excited to see him in game conditions.

Hopefully, Harris has all the athletic traits plus more toughness. We really need this guy to be a young George Beamon. He needs to play D and get us all kinds of possessions through boards, blocks, and steals. 9-10 ppg from him would just be a bonus. Siena desperately needs him to do this in order to be the 2 way team that it would take to beat out Rider and Iona. Siena has to emerge as the team that can both score AND defend in order to take this thing.

I would say that in some cases, having Hein being a quality defender would work fine as long as we have 4 solid offensive players on the floor. Pickett would probably draw the double team and it would lead to a potential iso situation with Carey or Burns, so it's not a total offensive loss. Not as ideal as having another shooter who can defend, but for 10 or so mpg it would be fine.

Looking at Nico’s freshman year as a target for Gary with lower usage is the ideal. barttorvik.com/playerstat.php?year=2016&p=Nico%20Clareth&t=SienaThis has finishing numbers at the rim and midrange which I love. Nico was very good at the rim for a freshman guard. I question if Gary, who is a little skinnier, can match that. But he has the skillset to do all the things Nico did.

Not as ideal as having another shooter who can defend, but for 10 or so mpg it would be fine. Pickett's double will probably come from Hein's man and make things harder. At least when Smithen attempted to score, he usually did it extremely efficiently...and he handled the ball better. Hein likely won't be so lucky. He historically takes more shots than points whereas Smithen had the highest points per shot on the team. It's likely gonna hurt. We really needed another guard. Unlike Carm's hopes, I think Carey is gonna have to back up Pickett...and thus guys like Ratliff soar in importance out on the wing...as more wing minutes open up. I have more faith in Ratliff taking a sophomore jump than in Hein taking a graduate jump.
