Nice game last night, pleasure to watch a well coached team!!Jalen Pickett had a heck of a game, kid is a winner! 19 points, 5 boards 6 assists and only 1 turnover, those are impressive numbers, he was best player on floor last night. Great to see a nice game from Degnan, not only did he shoot well, he grabbed 8 boards. This team in some ways reminds me of hewitts first team, not a lot of talent, but a lot of guys that can shoot the ball. Might be different guy every night, Degnan, Ratcliff and Sloan can all shoot the ball. www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Siena-men-s-basketball-beats-George-Washington-13376535.phpdailygazette.com/article/2018/11/08/christian-registers-1st-win-as-siena-men-s-basketball-head-coachgwsports.com/news/2018/11/8/mens-basketball-falls-to-siena-69-61.aspxwww.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/boxscore?gameId=401086049

any reason as to Bayer not seeing time? Injured?
was interesting to see the team against athletes closer to their level after Providence. Some of the team speed issues weren't nearly as noticeable last night.
Balanced attack and Obviously Pickett is just so sound with the ball. Camper, Degnan, Seymour, Ratliff all had key moments. I was also glad to see Darwiche settling in a bit (He still has a ways to go). he is slowly adjusting. Siena is really going to need him to settle in to his role as the backup PG. I think he is so amped up to be here and playing college basketball that he hasnt allowed himself to settle down and play within the game. A few more games and i think he begins to settle down, get a feel for the team and his role in it.

Saints pride!

"...but its lead had shrunk to 62-61 when Degnan came off a screen by senior forward Evan Fisher, collected a pass from Pickett and calmly drained the 3-pointer from the left side to put Siena up 65-61."
1. Did anyone score off a screen last year? Even once?
"Degnan barely played last season in his first year after transferring from Fairfield. He scored only 26 points in 2017-18. He’s starting under Christian and already has 24 points in two games."
2. I've said it before...college hoop is a coach's game. Here you have a guy that the last coach brought in that scored 26 points all last season and in 2 games has almost matched that. Sorry but that is 100% a result of the coaching (conditioning, practice, game plan, etc.)
As a reminder - winning coaches WIN! Losers make excuses.

Let's see where we are after 10 games. if they are 5-5 great but if they are 2-8 is JC suddenly a bad coach? That's why I love this board, every one has a different view of what's going on. I'd lean toward being cautiously optimistic.

Papi - you're correct...this board can turn in an instant. That said, I think what you're seeing is the reaction to a team that's a) competitive and b) fun to watch. You're seeing player development over last year ... instantly! Our perimeter D is still sketchy but the offense is markedly improved and they're crashing the boards. You're seeing a composed coach on the sidelines with players energized and excited to play for him. Winning counts a lot but how refreshing to see all of this. Nobody expects fantastic results this year on an absolute scale but on a relative scale (8-24 being the baseline) we already have success.

JMO. but I completely agree with your choice of verbiage-"optimism" - even "cautious optimism" is such a refreshing place to be in.

even though this is most likely not happening by seasons end. Did anyone expect Siena to be in this position AT ANY POINT this season

Not sure how the rest of the year will play out but I’m more than confident Siena made the right hire! As long as expectations remain reasonable no one will be disappointed.

Jamion Christian sure seems to get the most out of his players!Listening to the game on the radio I was actually fist-pumping after Degnan hit that 3 late in game to give Siena a 4pt cushion. If this is whats to be expected out these players as the season goes forward then the future of Siena basketball in the coming few years, with good recruiting is looking very positive.I am very excited!GO SAINTS!!

But when you see a record like that after 5 years into a purported rebuild, it's something else entirely. What we're seeing now is a game plan, preparedness, positive energy and a team in sync doing its best with what it has. We didn't really see that the past 5 years. Look no further than what we we've seen from Degnan so far, buried on the bench his whole career through 2 different coaches. Did he suddenly learn how to play...or did he he suddenly finally get a coach who knows how to get the most out of players, that saw what he could do, and utilized it?

Patsos did a good job the first year he was here and then he coasted and thought he could get away with it. I doubt that will happen with jc.
