Good thread for me to put in a thought I’ve had for awhile:
Early in the process, JC and staff have made clear inroads in a few places: they’ve recruited the City Rocks extremely hard, they’ve recruited several players from Philly, and they’ve recruited several players from the DMV. These, along with the prep schools, will be the main avenues that this staff wants to recruit.
They’ve also seemingly emphasized WINNING basketball players. I don’t have the time to dig up every single guy, but here’s a few examples:
Jalen Pickett played for one of the best prep programs in the country and won a state title at Aquinas. Zac Ervin, who we offered yesterday, won a Virginia state title. 3 targets from Philly (Chris Ings, Jamil Riggins, and Kyle Young) went 23-6, 31-2, and 29-4 in their HS seasons this year. Josh Oduro’s HS team went 33-4 and his AAU team is Team Takeover, which is 16-0 in the EYBL. Team Takeover and the City Rocks seem to be the primary AAU programs we are prioritizing.
Jamion is building his culture through recruiting players who have won their entire lives and have played at the highest level in HS and in AAU. This will pay dividends!

I've been saying this a lot lately but WOW!! JC and his staff have been doing such a wonderful job they make it look almost easy. We know it's all about hard work and being genuine. These guys are the real deal. These young men have done more, in less than two months, than anyone could have dreamed possible. And more important than anything, they have done a tremendous job in starting to get back Siena's reputation as a class operation

It is just refreshing to come on the site and read comments about fans, true Siena fans, who have hope and belief again! Almost everyone had lost both hope and belief with the former staff. Last night I was wearing one of my Siena shirts and I had comments like , "I like your shirt" "They're going to be good again." "This coming year they're going to be good." There is already momentum building across the region that Siena will recapture the magic. What an awesome time to be a fan, and just 4 short months ago, it was the bottom of the barrel for Siena fans. What a turnaround! I love it!

Earlier today was thinking about what it was like in the arena when Doremus hit that 3 against Georgia Tech compared to recent years ... looking forward to the new regime!

I’m optimistic as well, however, there are still major problems within the administration. If the president and the AD were willing to keep the status quo for another year if not longer what does that tell you. They hired JP! With the extensions they gave JP, they essentially hired him twice! The administration was happy with mediocrity. That’s a problem. Hopefully JC will show them a different way.

Oh I think a clear message was sent to the AD & it was received loud and clear.

The current AD needs to go- I don’t want to hear, oh he was forced to take Mitch or JP. If he was a strong AD he wouldn’t have been “forced” he publically came out in support of JP and how “he” had selected him. Not only did he select, he gave him two extensions. He gave a very risky coach in Mitch a 4 year guaranteed contract. His blunders on contracts have cost Siena hundreds of thousands of dollars on buy outs. Not to mention the money Siena lost on attendance Saints alive etc. John has done some good things for Siena over the years- but he is incapable of running a consistent program, he needs to retire. Siena will never be consistent as long as he is AD www.timesunion.com/sports/article/D-Argenio-has-plenty-riding-on-Patsos-era-4415436.php

For the "young'uns" who likely didn't read back then. Maybe, just maybe we will see a similar story in the hopefully not too distant future:

Bottom line - it was beyond AWESOME BABY!

We have just emerged from a very negative time in Siena Hoops history. D’Arg has held us together during this period and continues his program of improved facilities and fundraising. Give him credit for bringing in a new era of aggressive Coaching leadership. Certainly not the time for another change. Let’s continue to build.

Yet D'Argenio will not clear his name with this hire. It will be what happens in any future hiring that affords him that cleansing.

Your correct in that D’arg has initiated many good improvements at the school. Looking at these improvements they have been in the venue nature not, personnel. it’s just time for him to move on. His personnel,HR skills are certainly lacking, just look at his record. No we should thank him wish him well and escort him out the door. Retire, perhaps the president can help, him a position at another affiliated institution.

What a couple of weeks that was. Georgia Tech and Tulane at the Knick Arena, Bradley at the Glens Falls Civic Center, then Villanova and Kansas State at Madison Square Garden. I have never, and I mean never, been any place that was as loud as the Knick Arena on the afternoon of the game with Georgia Tech. It was so loud it was like there wasn't even any sound. You were just enveloped in a sea of noise. I could not hear the people on either side of me, and we were all shouting at each other. Three terrific wins, followed by a train ride full of Siena fans to MSG. At that time of year, everybody on every team is banged-up a bit, but we had too many guys who were really hurting. Otherwise, I know we could have beaten Villanova in the semis. But the Saints bounced back and beat K-State in the consolation game. Doremus MVP. Doremus broke the NIT scoring record. Mike Deane leaves for Marquette. A lifetime of memories in two short weeks. Thanks for bringing it all back, MP!
