It's great to see he is including the recruitment and relationship building of the City Rocks staff and players who are talented enough to play D-1 hoops.
It will be all that much better when and if he dials it in that much closer to actually being strongly considered when recruiting local kids who have options better than Siena but are still considering Siena as one of their final two or three choices.
It only takes one Jimmer or Kevin or Joe Girard to stay home and make his name at a "successful" Top 50 mid major Siena program to show other local talent that staying home can also be a great choice.
Imagine if any one of these guys decided to stay home what program changers they could have been/could still be?
It's not over till the fat lady sings so hoping that regardless of whether he has a Final Top 6 or not, that he is still going hard after Girard since he has absolutely nothing to lose.
If possibly being part of a national championship team is important it's either Duke or Michigan. If being part of the Notre Dame experience thats most important you can't do anything to beat that.
But there is no reason you can't be in the conversation when it comes to BC, Penn State, and yes, even Syracuse.
Boeheim and his crappy offensive scheme will do nothing for Girard.
But here is why Siena with a strong push by JC could come in out of nowhere and steal Girard with a late push.
Yes, he would not get the major college experience at Siena but this is what they could offer.
- a new young and I believe very well respected up and coming coach in the coaching ranks who could honestly come into the Girard household and say that now that he is here at Siena he wants to build the resurgence of the Siena basketball program back to where it was and beyond 8-10 years ago when Girard was 8-10 yrs old and that he wants to do this around him
- Girard would obviously fit into JC's system perfectly as a three point killer in a transition oriented offensive scheme
- would more than likely be a four year starter from game one
- would get many opportunities to make a name for himself nationally as a top 3-5 scoring leader in the country if he ends up being the real deal
- would come out of Siena with a great great motor that will give him an edge to get to the next level when the competition gets that much better, that much faster, that much stronger
- for every Pat, Barry, Ticky, Jimmer, and Kevin that did get drafted there are many many many more local kids who went to play at big schools and were good players, role players, or bench players on team's full of 4/5 star recruits that did not come out of that school as a professional hoop player, let alone a NBA Draft pick
- best opportunity of....
not only playing but being a 4 yr starter;
being part of the Siena record books;
getting to the Big Dance than at least 2 of your final 6;
playing in front of family and friends at every game;
being a primary part of the Siena resurgence on both a local and national basis that could in all probability set you up for life well beyond your playing days
JC has nothing to lose and everything to gain if he could at least get in the Girard home before a final decision has been made.
Hope he's at least making the effort to do whatever he can to do this?
