With Loyola moving to the Patriot League and no immediate replacement on the horizon, the schedule is being completed with only 16 league games.
That leaves 12 non-league games, remembering that an exempt event like the Old Spice Classic counts as only one of the 28 total. (As was the case the prior two years, a team that does not plan in an exempt event can schedule 29 games prior to the conference tournament.
Those paying attention know the following games were previously set for next season:
Albany @vermont (year 4 of a 4 year series) St. Bona (year 4 of a 4 year series) @ LaSalle @umass (year 3 of a three year series) Hofstra (return of the 2012 BracketBuster) @old Spice Classic Fordham (year 3 of a 4 year series) @bracketbuster
That leaves three games to be scheduled by my count, two of which will presumably be home games to keep the home schedule at no less than 14 home games.
The identity of the (hopefully) final road opponent was announced at a fundraiser tonight. The Saints will travel to Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana to face the Purdue Boilermakers in a game designed to finance next summer's trip to France and Italy.
Presumably no one will be complaint about next year's schedule, assuming a couple of respectable opponents are scheduled for the two open home games.

Isn't Purdue in the Old Spice next year? We could play them twice in 2013-2014!

According to a piece by singelais back in May, the 2013 field was to include Siena, Butler, Gonzaga, LSU, Purdue, Oklahoma State, St. Joe's and one TBD. However, Gonzaga is in the 2012 field and back- to- back appearances are not likely.
As far as Purdue being in the field with Siena, there is a precedent forteams scheduled to meet during thecseason also being in the OSC. In 2008, Gonzaga and Tennessee were in the field and also played each other in January. They were put on opposite of the bracket so they would not mean, if at all, until the final round. This could be done to minimize the chances of repeating a match-up. By the wat, the Zags beat the Vols for the title.

So if Loyola had stayed in the MAAC *and* Siena had scheduled a guarantee game to get funds, we would have only had 13 home games? Is there a chance that'll happen anyways? Or that Siena renegotiates one of the previously-agreed away games?

I would love to see us start a series with one of the Baltimore/DCarea schools to replace Loyolaand since we are recruiting more in that area. Love to see GW, Mason, Richmond,

I went back and looked at the schedules from 2001-02 to date and there were two or three years where Siena only played 13 home games. My guess is that they will try to fill the last two spots with home games, although if starting one of the series on the road would mean a very good home game the following year, that might be acceptable. There is always a chance that a school from the West might come east to at someone and be looking for a second game to justify the trip.

I would like to see Mid-Major success stories on the schedule. The likes of George Mason, Creighton, Wichita State, Davidson, Cleveland State, and St Mary's etc. The schedule can be strong without BCS conference teams on it.

I agree with saintiaint. However, one guarantee game for a cause is okay. Besides, we just might have a team to win that game.

Didn't we have two guarantee games in 08-09 (Pitt & KU) to help fund the 08 summer's Italy trip and the OSC? It not only costs money for the foreign trip but also for a week in FL. While I'd prefer the 14 home games, I can see Siena scheduling two guarantee games next year (but I don't have any inside info to back this up). Since we'll be an experience team next year (Junior heavy), up-scheduling two guarantee games would possibly help our RPI for seeding for the NCAA Tournament (which we should have a good chance of winning the MAAC Tournament in 2014).

We did have two money games back in 2008-09... of course not only to pay for the Italy trip but Fran's salary.
Next year's schedule is plenty tough with UMass, LaSalle, Old Spice and Purdue. The Old Spice should be loaded (even if Gonzaga is out). The field should be announced when they play this year's tournament during Thanksgiving.
Don't get me wrong I'd rather play a second guarentee then to play a cupcake at home but the perfect thing would be to get two solid mid-majors at home or a lower-tier high-major.
We should be very good this season.. next even better with the core more experienced of course filling OD's big shoes won't be easy!

I'd rather play a low major at home than make our schedule road-heavy with guarantee games. That would do nothing to help the long term future of our program. You are right, the perfect scenario would be long term agreements with solid mid majors from the CAA and the like.

I dont mind the guarantee game/games as long as it's with a team that helps the strenght of schedule ala 2008-09 and helps financially. Playing a low-tier major for name sake doesnt make sense to me. If Siena had did well these last two seasons would playing an awful Georgia Tech meant anything.

I like playing a major but not like the inexperienced team at the time that was pummeled by Memphis or Kansas.

I like playing a major but not like the inexperienced team at the time that was pummeled by Memphis or Kansas. Siena lost by 7 at the field house. Love it when Siena can negotiate a home and home or 2 for 1 with a "major" and would take that any time they can get it to work. Beyond that, I'd stick with scheduling contracts that feature home and homes (especially with A10 schools and regional rivals) and then look to get in the best tournaments possible. I have no problem with a guarantee game now and then, but only if it serves a purpose (raise money for a trip or if it truly helps the team prepare for the maac season).

Great time to renew the series with Holy Cross. It's just 2 hours down the Pike, has a large alumni presence in the Capital District and would help Siena's academic image.
