Great time to renew the series with Holy Cross. It's just 2 hours down the Pike, has a large alumni presence in the Capital District and would help Siena's academic image. Purp I hear what your saying but Crusader hoops doesnt bring enough to the table for me. They have been a sub-500 program the last decade. In my opinion if your going to play lesser conference(in my opinion)teams stick to the Vermont's of the world. Basketball aside I agree.

Playing a low-tier major for name sake doesnt make sense to me. If Siena had did well these last two seasons would playing an awful Georgia Tech meant anything. It's not logical, but true that committee members love to see wins against the big six leagues, regardless of record. It's not just an RPI thing. They call it "signature win", and yes, sometimes it is comical to see these mid majors' signature wins be against a 15-18 Georgia Tech team instead of a 25-3 Old Dominion win, for example. Of course, it doesn't mean anything unless the mid major is an automatic qualifier for the NCAA tournament or vying for an at large.

Playing some homes-and-homes is going to raise the level of a school's academic image? Holy Cross is a nice little school, with a nice little academic profile......you guys are like Fordham's dopey cousin.

As long as Mitch is coach the last meeting against the Cross won't be forgotten any time soon. They physically roughed up a couple of our players.

So the Holy Cross coach in that game, Ralph Willard, left to be an assistant at Louisville in 2009. They brought in Sean Kearney and then fired him after his first year (he was able to get his old job back as an assistant at Notre Dame). In 2010, they hired Milan Brown away from Mount Saint Mary's.
I have no strong opinion about whether Siena should play Holy Cross, but they're not the same team they used to be.
If we want a Patriot League opponent, Boston University could be an option now.

I hope they keep the St. Bonaventure series going. I believe their an A 10 team and have been playing better the last few years. Good game for Siena with another NYS Catholic school.

Literally and figuratively, those are some big shoes to fill and it accounts for recent levels of moderate success.

The A 10 is a lot better league than the MAAC. The Bonnies can finish near the middle of the pack and therefore Siena would be wise to keep them on the schedule.

I honestly dont know how you formulated your opinion. RPI ranking over the last 9 years 76, 122, 156, 201, 264, 279, 323, 199. Not only have they been bad prior to getting Nicholson, they've been one of the worst teams in the country. No, thank you.

Better than Siena the past two years in a tougher conference by far than the MAAC. I actually have to agree with albanysaint here. It's good for the Franciscan rivalry but in the long run they aren't much better than UAlbany most of the time. They struck it rich with one player who they pulled out of nowhere. On years Siena has a good team I'd rather find the good teams than being always locked into another long term rivalry.

Try to time it if/when they are peaking and avoid them the rest of the time. I understand some old-timers hanging onto that old-school rivalry but those days are long gone. Lets see them prove to be a player in the A10 without Nicholson before we go inking anymore deals.

I agree or its my opinion that besides the UA game no game should be played because of tradition/rivarly because we really dont have that circumstance anyways. The schedule should be fluid each year looking for the best available teams and if you want to play like-minded schools their recent body of work should be taken into account.
