Tate has five years to play four, just like everyone else. However, he has already used up two of his four years. He would be eligible to play second semester of 20-21, but that semester would count as a full year of eligibility, leaving him with just one full year left. The alternative is to sit all of 20-21 and then play two full years. The total additional games he would be eligible to play by choosing the second option is the number of games the team would play first semester of 20-21. In 19-20, that number was seven (American through Cal Poly). My guess is that he would not want to sit out a year and a half to pick up seven games or even ten. Guess it depends on the kid's wishes and the team's needs. Me personally, I think I'd choose a year of settling in, learning the system and your teammates, improving your game and getting two full years (after Camper graduates) vs. a year and a half with one of those sharing time with Manny. Then again, I get it ... guys don't like to wait and they want to play and contribute as soon as possible. And coach's have the pressure of wanting/needing to win right away. So you very well may be right. He’d have to sit out 22 months just to play an extra 7/8 games?? No way. He ll do the 11 months and play 55 games? Instead of 63.

Yeah, but he may be a bit too popular. Make the offer, show your interest, give your best sales pitch and hope for the best. All you can do!

If we get these two they would both be juniors next year. Basically trade Radliff and Darwiche and maintain some class balance

Updated Scholarship Chart for NEXT season:
Senior: Sammy Friday (I’ve been told he’s gone but nothing official reported So keeping him on the chart for now)) Manny Camper
Junior: Jalen Pickett Donald Carey Dana Tate (eligible December ~15) Georges Darwiche Jimmy Ratliff
Sophomore: Jordan King (assuming he’s getting one) Gary Harris Luke Sutherland Kyle Young
Freshman: Aidan Carpenter Bennett Kwiecinski Colin Golson
So technically, we are now 1 over the limit for next year. Once Friday’s departure goes official, we’d be even at 13. Then potential Ratliff/Darwiche/surprises gives us some flexibility. Expecting two more additions... ideally Silver and then either an immediately eligible 5 or a sit-out best available type.

Silver would be a great pickup. We need some shooters to open the lanes for ‘attack and finish’ and keep zones honest. Tate is an excellent pickup but isn’t a great shooter, although his form isn’t bad.

It is 100% that King gets a scholarship next year, after that all bets are off. Siena honored the deal with Ratliff this year, should be able to move on now. Hopefully can work out a deal where Georges can keep his scholarship as a student assistant or something.

Just watched some tape on Tariq Silver. How is everyone feeling about our chances?

Just watched some tape on Tariq Silver. How is everyone feeling about our chances? I’d say 50-50. We’re either going to get him or not.

Just watched some tape on Tariq Silver. How is everyone feeling about our chances? He has a lot of offers - but Siena is the best of them so far. That's the good news. The bad news is he left E. Michigan because he didn't want to play behind someone he saw as the coach's guy. And Siena likely has Pickett, Carey, and Harris entrenched as starters for years to come. Though there are still lots of minutes available because Carm wants to play a lot of guys, many of Silver's options can offer him being the man from day 1. Siena can't offer that. It's the reason they lost Mekhi Gray to NJIT. So, Siena is far from a shoo-in.

Does he want to be “the guy” on a team that most likely won’t make it to NCAA’s or would he like to be a Siena Saint and get a great chance to play in multiple NCAA Tournament games? Because, Siena, IMO is on path for a dominate run in the MAAC with hopefully multiple MAAC Championships & Tourney wins.

Well Siena hasn't been to the tourney in 10 years, so I don't think that supposed likelihood of multiple NCAA appearances is evident to most. Mehki Gray faced the same decision. He chose being the man. I'm not sure Silver is going to be satisfied in a supporting role as an upperclassman unless it's at a high major. We shall see. Some guys just want to win and are happy being part of that. Hopefully he's one of those.
