First of all, pretty slimy for an AAU coach to use his influence to limit the schools a player might attend. That said, I assume that this relationship mostly provides shoes (maybe apparel) for the players on the team. I guess I would ask if that is worth being limited to the players you might be able to sign. What if we had NO contract? its business. business is often slimy. no contract would be worse. Doesn't have to be. The AAU coaches should have scruples if they claim to be looking out for their kids.

Understood. But they are not looking out for their players. Does this have anything to do with that FBI investigation that Pitino was linked to?

Does this have anything to do with that FBI investigation that Pitino was linked to? Yes and no. The sneaker companies have huge contracts with Big 5 schools, with most of $$ funneled to the coach. In Pitino's instance, he was alleged to be aware of Adidas offering a recruit's family $100k to go to Louisville. (Louisville is an Adidas school) He was also found to get like 95% of the money Adidas "paid" Louisville over the life of the contract. Big difference than how it works with mid major programs. Hell, my son's high school football program here in Texas is sponsored by Nike.

Yep; I am hearing that some larger high schools are now sponsored by the shoe/apparel companies. Its BIG business; you get a high school hooked on your brand.......

Texas Football has been a real wake up call. Beyond the Nike Sponsorship, the program has a dedicated Academic Advisor, 2 full time trainers and a strength coach. (11 full time coaches plus 12 that handle 7th and 8th grades at two feeder middle schools) JV, Freshman, 8th and 7th grade teams play on the turf field on campus. The City I live in has 10 public high schools. Varsity teams plays their home games either at the Toyota Center (home to the Dallas MLS franchise) or the Star (Dallas Cowboys indoor practice facility). The next town over has a $60,000,000 Football stadium that was built 4 years ago and is the home to 1 team. Crazy.

Coach Christian on video in UA Siena apparel so it looks like Under Armour it is. College might have an existing contract in place.

Man, if the college did switch or Nike or another company, you know what that means?
Sales to get rid of the Under Armor stuff at the bookstore!
Ah well.

For those who profess Siena bball is a business ... shouldn’t it depend who will write the bigger check :-) I wouldn’t doubt but that’s probably why Jimmy was allowed to stay as long as he did. He brought in Corp money, unis, shoes, etc. UA). So when fan support dwindled but other sponsorship/money coming in to offset, sort of makes sense.

Now that JP has gone he most likely took any kind of UA connection that the basketball program had. JC also had under armour at MSM so maybe he has some kind of relationship with them. Most of the current roster and recent transfers all play for UA sponsor HS teams but also AAU programs. I know how weird it may sound to some and the difference in brands mean little to most the fanbase but no one wears UA shoes once the games are over and the preference would always be Nike. This also may help recuiting with a switch to Nike as a closer connection to EYBL which is a Nike league. With how close JP was to the company is it something the school and program just want a complete clean slate? Patsos is not UA. He is just sponsored by them. If new coach is UA as well then so will the team. Personally I like Nike much better but you don't get to choose. They choose you.

Patsos name dropped planks name almost as much as Gary Williams... and that’s saying something! Plank hosted jimmy and his wife at the Kentucky derby. I would say ol jimbo was a card carrying member of UA.
