Pretty sure Penn already used up his redshirt year. Would think that would make him the least likely player to transfer. I could be wrong, but I don't think he has used a year. He started school a semester early, no? I didnt think that used ANY eligibility.

Not on the know but I think they work at will like any other employee and severance is probably whatever the school policy is . So if it is at will than there Should be no lawsuit. Agree but doesn’t mean they can’t try and make life he’s. These things then become major distractions

Though, he could apply for a 6th year of eligibility to the NCAA and, I would guess, likely be granted it.

Penn used his redshirt coming early would lose a year If he left.We all know how these things work. The minute JP job was in doubt schools started calling these guys aau coaches or handlers. You don't ask for release unless you have opportunity.I think Prince well move up one level or laterally. That Scholl gets to redshirt him and workon his game To me that's a steal then have 3 years of play from him.But really 4 years he gets to practice also while sitting out.I'm guessing A-10

That makes sense if he technically was enrolled in Jan 2017.

I really don't get how Prince feels Siena treated him badly. Jimbob played him almost every game.
I guess since he was Jimbob's recruit, he feels that he would be better suited some place else.
Question is, where does he go? There is no way that Siena would allow him to play at Niagara/Canisius (close to where he lives) since they are within the MAAC.

I’d guess A10 and maybe even some high majors have already reached out to his intermediaries. He wouldn’t want his release if he didn’t know he had a better option. He has very clear potential and with a redshirt year is going to be a star somewhere. I’d guess Bona tries hard for him (wonder if Siena blocks there as they are on the schedule— wouldn’t be Franciscan way but that’s not how the game works). La Salle has a new coach who will recruit transfers heavily. Dayton has a ton of open scholarships. Mississippi State (who said they would have offered him out of HS but Siena had already signed him has scholarships. Maryland does too. Teams generally take chances on bigs because good ones are so hard to come by. They will take their chances on developing someone.

Technically, what does it mean when you get a release? Is it easy to return if you change your mind or do you have to go through hoops (no pun intended) again, paperwork, etc.

I agree! no school gives a blanket release...or should they. He was treated like a "Prince" at Siena.

I don't think there are many situations that parallel ours - most schools making a coaching change do it quickly and decisively - these kids have been left hanging - the right thing to do is let them all see what's out there - do I want them to leave? Hell no! I would like nothing more than to see what real coaching could produce - they all have skills/talent that I believe can be developed coupled with an existing tie to Siena and their teammates. Kenny H. was not seen as a D1 prospect and look what Fran developed - how many decried RR's entrance and then voila we have the highest caliber MAAC player...it's coaching folks and we have not seen it for so long that many have forgotten what that really means to a Program - we'll be fine - GET IT DONE!!!

Think you are wrong on Kenny H, pretty sure he was considered among the best available recruits when Fran signed him late in the recruiting cycle. Not saying he wasn't undervalued earlier in the recruiting season just that they were excited about getting him late.

Why does it have to be about Siena treating him bad? I know JP is not popular on this board but don't you think it's possible that some of the players actually liked playing for him and are upset about him being forced out? Or, further, unsure of the future given the open position and he would rather have the opportunity to pick his coach rather than have the coach picked for him. SBU is probably a pretty good bet ... Schmidt and Patsos are friendly. On twitter, all the nyc mid major media guys make jokes about Eric Paschall and Fordham (every time he did something good at Villanova, they would comment (sarcastically) on why Fordham could never get players like him. (He transferred out after a coaching change.) I think we'll be saying the same thing about Prince in 2 or 3 years.
