Reporter Gish has interesting suggestion. I think this is the first time the paper mentions that Mitch is a possible no show next season...and his replacement...what do you think???

Siena is not going to hire a woman to coach the men's team. We have enough distractions and it would be a media circus. There's more then just X's and O's when it comes to being the head coach.
That said the UA ladies coach and many women would be much better than the current head "coach" of Siena men's basketball.

I just said this last week ..that it was time for a woman to crack the D1 mens coaches club. LOL maybe a second career for me after 25 years in pharma research!

Its not going to happen right now at Siena ! But eventually it will happen-but it going to have to be someone with ton of credibility in college basketball-like Vivian Stringer at R.U.
Note... The D-League already has a female head coach- Nancy Lieberman !
Now what Siena could do is have a female assistant coach! And that would great from public relations perspective !

Link: www.timesunion.com/sports/article/Coaching-needs-greatest-call-4237550.phpIt's not truly a column about Siena--it just uses Siena's possible opening as a foil for the point about women as coaches--but it's an interesting read. I've had my disagreements with Gish as a columnist, but this one's decent. Not that Siena will actually take her advice. I think we'd need to see more women as assistants first. We talk a lot about D-III or D-II experience not being relevant to the D-I game. It would be the same point that women's D-I experience isn't directly relevant to the men's D-I game.

I don't care what sex the coach is as long as they can coach and recruit.
We shouldn't be looking for a coach based on factors that are not relevant to coaching and recruiting.
Let's not try social experiments at Siena, especially not in men's basketball.
