Saints currently have RPI hovering around 275( 20 losses and counting) and are tied for 9th place in MAAC. Good news for Saints is last 3 games are teams at Saints level bottom of the MAAC. Saints are underdogs in all 3 games, but its close. Guessing the game at SPC to end regular season on 2/25 will be for 9th place a loss would pretty much guarantee 10th place finish
This year will rank as one of worst ever at Siena, and while we have a few bright spots, not a lot of talent on this team, guys that can score are not athletic= so defense will be an issue. JP looking at few nice recruits, but his track record of signing kids in competitive situation is not good ( in fact it’s horrible) kids getting year older will help, but we are looking at another year of 500 at best and more than likely JP’s 5th losing regular season in 6 years at Siena. JP’s history here at Siena tells us only a few weeks of recruiting season left for JP- as he basically closes up shop after season for vacation. JP has clearly been a failure here at Siena. Not sure how Siena can possibly bring this guy back - other than for purely financial reasons, if so I hope they fire- reassign - retire Darg , only a few weeks till season is mercifully over and we can find out direction of program.

Siena should let SoSo resign or fire him and ask a good HS coach to take a sabbatical year, pay him $50k to coach for that year while they find a real AD and a good 3 year to long term head coach. That would not break the bank and there is NO way that would be worse than having SoSo involved with the program again next year. I know, I know, no way but a man can dream can't he?

Not a chance at $50K. HS coaches who also are a Phys Ed coach (the majority?) make more than double that. I understand where you want to go with that and it's not a crazy idea (although VERY unconventional). You have to go at least triple that. You need to find either an ambitious young guy who's had success at the HS level looking for their break or an older guy looking for a challenge (but already has a decent retirement through a school - remember teachers can retire at 55). This guy would also need a mentor who has college experience. It's a HUGE risk, but an interesting idea and a good discussion topic.

Siena just needs to end it now. They may think they’ll save money but anyone with a brain knows bringing JP back will hurt them more financially in the long run. But do they see the big picture? Nobody’s buying the BS. The circus act must end.

But at $150K and an honest discussion with the Siena boosters and sponsors about a one year reboot and rock solid commitment to a plan that matches what they shared with eveeyone to raise the money for the practice facility, fields, etc. Would likely go a long way to restoring faith and support for the school and program. As I said earlier I just can't imagine anything worse than having SoSo back again next year and Darg continuing as AD. A recent thread really brought this all home for me. For every Griffin, Deane, Hewitt and Fran Mc, Siena had a Beyer, Lanier,PW and SoSo. We have been teased with the possibilties of being a top MM and fumbled away an opportunity to join the A10 a few years ago. At the end of the day Siena for the foreseeable future is a low MM to low major. With the cost diparity between public and private schools, the private schools really have to have something set them apart from the pack. Siena is an ok, not great academic school so they need something else. Many thought they would capitalize on the returns of a successful sports program but they clearly have other or no plans unless they are planning on riding with SoSo into oblivion and financial ruin.

There's got to be some decent lower level DI coaches or top assistants that would jump at the opportunity to coach at Siena and prove their worth. Put some incentives in the contract where if the "New Coach" achieves/meets them after the two years the HC job is theirs. Siena should be able to absorb this cost, boot JP out the door and pay him his $450/yr for the next two years. If they don't I have to believe that their lost revenue from they BB program would far exceed the $150 - $200k .
