I thank Siena for giving me a second chance to prove myself at this demanding job and I am sorry that it didn't work out. I hope that everyone remembers me for my successes as associate head coach and not my failures of the last few seasons. Thank you for this amazing opportunity to be a part of the Siena family." Changed your draft a little and now it is ready for him to read at his next opportunity.....

"I was very surprised when he fouled out." said Coach B about Trenity, Burdine also said he thought he only had 3 foulsThis is from Andrew Santillo's twitter... are you kidding me? There's being a bad coach and then there's just being embarrassing. When Trenity got his 4th I said to the people who sit near me, "Look, the coaches aren't even aware he has 4." It's hard to believe that none of them has that in-game awareness--it's a disease.

Besides obvious variances in talent, the difference between winning and losing in college basketball is very small. But generally it is not luck that determines the outcome, it is coaching. We have laid it out over the years. It's the attention to the "little" things, like promoting team discipline (having a team first attitude), instilling confidence in your players (not all teams are too good to beat them), knowing what players you have on your bench instead of "forgetting", getting your starters rest at the right times, use of timeouts in late game situations, adjusting your defense in response to adjustments by the opposing team, knowing how many fouls your players have, free throw preparation (encouraging practice outside of practice), and recruiting to fit your needs and not taking unnecessary chances. It all leads to losing, even if only by a few points. Last night Burdine gets his 5th foul with 7 minutes to go. He goes out and the team is outscored 15-8 the rest of the way. This should have been a 20 win team, I still believe that, against this schedule and with this group of kids, if managed properly. It wasn't, and hopefully in 40 days or so this nightmare will be over for the sake of the kids, and for the sake of the fans.

I believe they left both Poole and Burdine in with 4.

I believe they left both Poole and Burdine in with 4. Poole finished the game with 4 fouls, but he got his third with 18 minutes to go and his 4th with 20 seconds. I'm not sure if he got a break after the third foul.

I believe they left both Poole and Burdine in with 4. yes. Not to mention that it was Robbie's first game back after a terrible bout with the flu and significant weight loss. He was exhausted at the end. When he was short with his shots at the 6 min mark of the second half he should have been sat down for a minute or two of rest.

Another thing........maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed to me last night that, after scoring 40 points in what could have been the team's best offensive half of the season, the main adjustment made at halftime was to get the ball in to OD. He had not been the focus of the offense in the first twenty minutes, which seemd to work fine, but I would swear that, on the first six-eight possesions of the second half, each time down the ball went in to OD before anything else happened. To quote one of Mitch's most often used expressions: "That's insanity".
Evan carried the team through that stretch by scoring, I think, Siena's first sixteen points of the second half, but it just didn't make sense (to me, anyway) to go away from what had worked so well in the first half, and force the ball in to OD, particularly since he was covered by two and three guys every time he got the ball.
Almost complete non-sequitur........I was at the Siena-Niagara game at Niagara last week. As I was walking a couple of hundred yards from the parking lot to Gallagher Arena, I was behind a young guy and girl, both of whom seemed to be about college age. The girl asks the guy: "Who are we playing tonight"? He says: "Siena". She says: "They used to be the team to beat, didn't they"? I didn't know whether to laugh or cry!

Siena was moving the ball well and getting good open looks in the first half and went with the pound it in to OD "offense" to open the second half. They got nothing out of it while Niagara ran off something like 8-9 points.

i think what happened is (and happens most games siena looks "good" for stretches) Siena gets into more of a track meet game, they actually move the ball better vs a poor defensive team like Niagara and get some easy buckets, but that game is so far out of Mitch's comfort zone, he totally fixes that at half and the team slows to a crawl... pretty sire siena managed 5 points the 1st like 9 minutes of the 2nd half, with OD touching the ball for set plays nearly every time.... once niagara sprinted out to a 9-10 pt lead, siena had to get moving again and next thing you know they are in the game..... would like to see what they would have done had they just kept playing that way.... granted OD fouled out half the niagara team, but watching mitch's brand of ball fail over and over again and him not changing at all is just sad at this point.... also Bisping takes two open shots to start the game and Mitch yanks him... umm, what message are you sending there? other then you are a d*ck?

Good point. It's like someone mentioned the game is too fast for him. Siena was scoring and play uptempo and then at halftime we became stagnet again. He yanked Bisping after a mistake...Audu only played a few minutes. Mitch loves only playing 6 guys.. last year was a BLESSING for him not a curse. I just can't wait until we get a top notch coach and start winning like Siena is accustomed too.
