Warning this post is complementary of St. Fran - read at your own peril:
Hate to see such a talented kid go down the tubes. Many of our past recruits have come in with issues, both academic, work ethic and attitude. Most get corrected or minimized early on - that's what good coaches AND their staffs do to make sure the kids they give scholarships to work out for the betterment of their program and their jobs. I really believe Lavon, under Fran, would have been all MAAC by his second year - the kid is that talented and his issues were relatively minor and correctable by a good coach. Same for Nico. Cole might have survived - who knows? All I know is that our current HC appears woefully deficient in the area of student player development - low on the player side and non-existent on the student side. It's beyond time for him to go.

Wait so he won't be back for second semester? Lol Gotta give you cred dip you knew early that he was gone...another wasted scholarship given by our loser coach...I think he is more of a program wrecker then the original PW Mitch.....damn jimmy sucks. A "wasted scholarship" on a guy who was the league's Sixth Man of the Year last season? How do you figure that? Don't say is wasn't a very good player last year, and can't be again. Yes, if he doesn't return, he'll have to be replaced, when that obviously wasn't the plan when he was signed. But it isn't a scholarship "wasted". No one could have foreseen this outcome. And good old Dipset is right there with the "Buh bye Neek". Grow up and give the kid a break. None of us have any idea what issues he or anyone else on the team is dealing with. If he leaves, just wish him well and hope things go better for him from now on. If he returns to the team, demonstrate some human compassion and understanding, and support him the same as you would any other player on the team........which for some of you, I realize, isn't saying much.

Bench: Smithen- Richards- Friday. Kadeem has been a starter the past several games. Not coming off the bench. I'd figure the parts would be interchangeable.

All these players leaving and no one (admin) is really bothered by it? What's his track record for players bailing from Loyola and Siena combined? Could be wrong but I'm guessing it's over the NCAA average.

You're right. For example, under Jimmy, Edwin would likely have suffered the same fate as Nico. The fish rots from the head down.

Coach can't keep anyone he recruits, so yes when a player leaves before his 4 years is up I think it is a waste. Return? You think he is returning hahaha

Kids that are transferring dont play in games on Jan 12th. If he planned on that, he leaves mid-December after classes are over. Anyone can see the kid is screwed up for some reason. Better he steps away, he was hurting the team. A few other posters had told me this week they heard he was in trouble academically. Not a real surprise. The whole year has gone south for this kid, and for the team so far.
Maybe not dealing with this distraction any longer, the team can hopefully move forward. I hope he gets his shit together, and gets back to the level he was at last year. Whether its here or not. He's got a lot of talent. I hope it works out for him.

This is very sad. These kids are spoon fed by their 'handlers" and are made to believe that they just have to excel at basketball and they will be off to the league. Education is a farce for some on the AAU belt, and they believe that college will be no different. A difficult life lesson ensues. I hope it works out wherever he lands and wish him well but am thinking it won't be back here with JP.

In hindsight maybe it would have been better for all involved if Nico was shut down for the season and given RS right from the get go. He appears to be suffering mentally and physically. It's odd because he seemed like he was all in last year and didn't appear to be a problem.

It's odd because he seemed like he was all in last year and didn't appear to be a problem. Spot on - but the limelight associated with the returning senior class blinded some in terms of actions that might have been in the overall best interests of the kid. I don't feel his scholarship was wasted but others have been - good coaches recruit with a plan in mind to balance classes and positions and a merry go round each year makes that incredibly more difficult than it usually is - Nico's knee and last course of action may have ended his basketball future or knocked it down a notch, i.e., D2 or lower.

Siena's roster for 2017-18 assuming Nico is gone and there are no more transfers:
Seniors - None
Juniors - Smithen, Degnan, Fisher, WB (4)
Sophomores - Friday, Richard, Shivers, Huerter (4)
Freshmen - Horn, Penn, Oduro (3)
Two open scholarships.
