They dont all get run off-- some want to get closer to home, some want to play at higher ( or lower level) bet 10% or less are actually run off

Tony, my post was made facetiously for the few on the board who seem to think JP has nothing better to do than throw away kids that a lot of time, effort and money was expended on to bring to Siena. It appears from a post on another thread that a current member of the team wants to move on despite being asked to stay by the staff. Certainly JO was not "run-off" to BU nor a kid like Josh Duell run-off by Vermont. I agree a very small fraction are likely encouraged to find another school. I think it was reading a 40% transfer rate in the first two years nationally is the new normal but when it happens at Siena (less than 40%, which would be 2 or 3 players EVERY year) that the term gets trotted out with regularity. The 40% is still pretty shocking, but maybe shouldn't be if you count the names with teams like Ohio State after them (4) on the transfer list on another thread.
Edit* Just scrolled the list again. Niagara has FIVE transfers on the list? Wow!

There are other ways to run a kid off without simply asking them to leave. Treating the player like an outcast and lying to the player about playing time, magnifying one players mistakes while never ' coaching ' the others in the same manner. These things among other tools coaches use to ' run kids off'

Melva, There are 200 minutes in a regulation game. There are normally 13 scholarship players on a team. The "starting 5" will generally get 150+ of those minutes. The next 2 guys off the bench probably 30 of what's left. That leaves 20 minutes for 6 players or 3 1/2 minutes each on average. If you are recruited for D1 ball you were almost with certainty a HS starter and not used to working your ass off all week for 3 1/2 minutes PT (if that). If you are sophomore and sit the far end for most of two years thinking you will inherit one of the starter spots next year then and find out there has just been "a talent upgrade" at your position with the signing of a young stud are you still being "run off" if you leave?

I believe in your original post you asked was Melva parroting off other posters and your guess was yes. It may take some time but ask them not Melva. It may also take some time but there are programs that have the character enough to committ to a player, develop that player to be better ANY freshmen/transfer than would attend the school especially if said player has been told his time would come. Now anything more I would be accused of giving a lecture. Assume that I have never been around any D1 program. The parrot has remained in the cage. Players do get run off. That is a fact.

Forgive my terrible post Hockeyguy but the most important thing is check the other posters and programs. There s some innovative stuff going on in regards to keeping a thirteen player roster so I hear. You gotta get out more.

I'm not sure of your point, objective or motive to come on a Siena board and preach about what you think happens at many programs across the country. Care to elaborate and can you do it clearly without speaking in code?

I82, In it's original form I said in my post above that I didn't know what experience Melva had with D1 programs or if he was parroting other posters regarding "running off" players. That I quickly deleted as being inappropriate, but apparently not before Melva saw it, hence the reference to needing a cracker. Since he feels the most important thing is to check other posters (informed or otherwise) perhaps he/she does need a cracker after all.

Hopefully I have posted a clear message Never intended to speak in code I m just not good at posting. I m working on it.
