This game did nothing but make me more reluctant about next season. Without Oliver this would have been a blowout I know you're a contrarian Papi but lets face it Siena wasn't "into" the CBI...Morehead St wanted it more and deserved to win. This game has NOTHING to do with next year. We do need to up our game to beat Monmouth and to a lesser extent Iona (defending champs until beaten but lose a ton). Just like winning the CBI was certainly no springboard the following season two years ago. Siena will battle Monmouth for the championship next year whether we get over the hump will determine how much better we get in the off-season. Player development needs to continue. We took a big step from last year and now we need to take another big step which is argubly the toughest from going from good to outstanding.

If your a player you play to win period. Trust me they were playing to win. Losing to a more athletic team that nobody ever heard of is a problem in my eyes heading into next season especially at home.

I wonder if thye include the suite holders in the final attendance? We didn't have to pay for tickets, so do we count on the final tally or not? Suite holders do count per Belber, which makes the attendance even more pathetic.

attendance 2061... pathetic for sure but still more than a home UAlbany conference tournament game... 2062...arrived at halftime but box office was closed so I couldn't get my ticket. Luckily security gave me an assist after showing them my email receipt so I was able to see the last 16:00 game minutes. Not sure all 8 in 'the rotation' were into playing this game.

Maybe groups means, the group who plays, the group who sits and the group who's leaving. Get 11-12 guys that can play without a huge drop off in talent and play like Morehead did but with more 3 point shooters. You want to limit groups, get everybody involved.
It looked like a pogo stick convention of blue out there last night.

The crowd was as loud as it could be given our much reduced numbers - don't criticize those of us that came - don't criticize those that didn't - lots going on with ticket snafus, quick turnaround and a fan base that had prematurely shut down when all of the "in the know" folks said Siena wouldn't pony up the $'s to buy a home game in an "also ran" post season tournament. We stayed with a very well coached, athletic, deep and disciplined team. They were the better team overall yet our heart and fight took them to the wire. I for one would say we got out coached. They knew our strengths and took full advantage of that knowledge. How many defensive rebounds went by the boards (pun intended) as we failed to box out and watched tip in after tip in complete their offensive set. Hopefully we can build on the game by EMPHASIZING the positives and WORKING on the negatives. FT shooting must be improved and that should be a no brainer - if our staff needs fresh ideas, hire someone to come in and school the kids - shit, if we paid %30K for the game we should be able to find a significantly lesser amount to school the team and staff on how to get FT's into the + column. We've been listening to HJ for too long about the need for quickness and athleticism - we saw a team constructed that way and I, despite the L enjoyed watching them play. Our recruiting needs to be improved and we need to develop ALL of the kids that sit on that bench in the future. I would agree with the exception of the out coached statement. Yes Morehead State was well prepared for our strengths, that is good coaching, but they were much more athletic and a very good team, despite the "ratings" and as you point out we got out worked on the boards, missed layups and free throws and lost by 4 despite turning over the ball way too much. That to me says failure to execute more than lack of coaching. So yes, the Morehead St coach coached a very good game and his team won with a good game play of pressing and aggressive play, but his team hit their fts and got the offensive boards. That to me says the players won the game. But, bottom line, Siena lost so the team was out played and outcoached by definition. Need to recruit more athletes who are basketball players. That is the aspect of coaching where Morehead St. won the coaching battle. That said, it was a very good year and the team is to be congratulated, but there is always more to work on.

Frustrating to watch such lousy ft shooting on home court while visitors come and go 21 out of 24. Maybe Mike Deane can be a shooting consultant. Four point loss. Wonder what would have happened if Brett didn't miss the dunk and give M S a point on the T and Lavon didn't miss wide open layup. To Nico's credit he took some free throws in second half warmups. Morehead had 11 guys score ala Monmouth. Eight man rotations don't cut it. Jimmy paid Ryan great tribute in pc. Morehead just had waaaay better athletes. I think Nico was the only player who could keep his guy infront of him. Sadly that has been said several times lately (about Nico and team). This roster is fine for a 3-5 place team in the MAAC, and with the right things coming together, maybe higher next year (a group of 4 year starters), but overall they are no where near athletic enough to be the best team night in and night out. We saw it vs Iona (twice) and last night. Nico is the only guy who can play on ball defense well (and w/o fouling) while also contributing on offense. They had about 5 guys like Nico, though not as talented, come off the bench. Siena has none. Fisher w/o one stat in 10 minutes. I had a thought last night, can Larose even contribute in the future against teams like that? On a more well balanced team, he certainly could, but when a team is already against the 8-ball athletically, you can't afford the luxury of a "shooter" out there. Jimmy is on his 4 recruiting cycle so any blame on roster shape falls to him and staff now (so this years and next years class is very important on how he builds around Nico for 2018). Hopefully wright gets some confidence back as he gets 100% healthy, he just seemed out of sync in all aspects last few games (really bad turnovers you don't expect from a vet player). I also found it curious with the time remaining (i think it was around the 2:30 mark) Siena gets them down to 6 on shot clock and then Oliver fouls. (no FT, not in bonus) and then they run another 20+ seconds off before another foul. Was a sloppy set of basketball.... oliver shouldn't have fouled at that point and once he did, they should have been fouling immediately. Just a bizarre set in a game that wasn't quite decided.

I wonder if thye include the suite holders in the final attendance? We didn't have to pay for tickets, so do we count on the final tally or not? Yes humblebrag they counted you... did you walk through a turnstile just like the rest of us? This is Siena bball not the LA Lakers calm down HJ. Damn, I thought I was Jack Nicholson! It was an honest question. If they do count, then there wasn't even 2000 in the building. They must count all 16 seats in every suite as a "ticket sold." We only had 8 in ours. The other reason I wasn't sure how it worked, is we're not considered season ticket holders, even though we have tickets for every game?? No bobbleheads for us ;( This game hopefully proved we desperately need some more athletes if we want to win the MAAC next year. Can't keep kids on the end of the bench that have no chance to contribute now, or down the road.

I was very disappointed in the coaching staff down the stretch. If was very apparent from the five minute mark on last night that MSU was spreading the floor and utilizing most of the shot clock. Meanwhile, Siena had only three team fouls. The lead went from 73-70 to 77-70 over a couple of minutes of time. Down 7 with 2:20 to play, we let 26 seconds go off the clock on two consecutive MSU possession before we fouled. This was the point in the game where we should have been going for steals at every chance, but we did not do that. In fact the clock went from 2:20 to 1:21 without MSU taking a shot. Isn't the overriding principle when you are down three scores to lengthen the game?
It was almost like nobody wanted to be there, whether playing or coaching.

This game once again exposed was our lack of speed and athleticism. At times it looked like a layup drill where MHS scored at will (why no Silas, JP continued to play Fisher all year despite putting up 0's in every imaginable stat but fouls). It was a 4 point game last night, think Silas would have blocked / altered a few shots and grabbed a few boards?
MHS was just as athletic with their 6-11 bench guys as our starters. I couldn't even tell when they had subs on the floor, zero drop off in talent. Makes me really wonder about Cam Fisher and LaRose. Those 3 wouldn't get off MHS bench (hell LaRose and Cam couldn't get off our bench & Fisher shouldn't have).
JP has to up his recruiting, I'm adamant NO contract renewal until we see how he replaces Brett JO Wright and Long.

Their substitutions reminded me of Paul Hewitt's teams here. We definitely need to value the ball more. Morehead was more athletic; they were quicker to the ball all game, so many tip ins. Imoh may have stopped some of that.

19 turnovers, 12 of 21 FTs. That's it.
My bigger concern was Jimmy's comments post-game about coming together as a team on and OFF the court. He alluded to factions on the team so there is a unity problem for sure. I'm not sure who or why.

Too much is being made out of this game...MSU wanted the game more. These guys aren't robots. This game is about passion and emotion especially if the talent is close. If Siena was going to just go through the motions then we probably should have just declined the CBI bid (which for the foreseeable future I think we will). The Iona game ripped our hearts out both the regular season game and tournament game ultimately. Work hard over the summer - we have an excellent core to build on and make an NCAA tournament push next year.
