Siena isn’t doing it the Monmouth way?? How about doing it the Siena way. Siena dominated the conference with 4 year players under Fran. Nobody is saying you have to recruit blue chip recruits ( top 100 players) how about getting Good kids, athletic players with high upsides. Not going to bad mouth any kids on current rosters, but mistakes were made, vis-à-vis some “lazy” recruiting . I fully agree program is headed in right direction..but its not only the players that have to improve, stop making excuses and get your ass out on recruiting trail this off season blog.timesunion.com/collegesports/patsos-siena-basketball-is-moving-in-the-right-direction/21993/

This team needs a 3 & 5 ASAP.
Another Nico type player, a 6.5-6 range kid who can shoot, attack the rim, defend and play the 2-3 positions is a must as is another player to protect the paint and rebound. After next year the team will have Evan F and WB. For the record I think Tommy H will be a very nice addition but IMO he'll be more of a stretch 4 as is WB.
AND, yes I want high level players! Remember how much JP raved about Siena's advantages BEFORE he got the job? Well he needs to be reminded of them and go get higher level talent on a yearly basis. Role players are fine but no more mistakes, especially those resulting from lazy recruiting, that everyone can see from day 1 is not the right type of player to help Siena be a top MM.

Listening to JP speak, sometimes I get the feeling he's trying to motivate or convince himself more than anybody else. I sense at times there's a lack of discipline here, which can be reflected in the team. Or maybe it's a lack of focus.
Look at the struggles in back to back situations. Always making a big deal about the "quick turnaround" games, lowering expectations like being happy to win 1 of 2 (for example the western NY swing). The team has to pick up on that, and it shows.
I think back to the Paul Hewitt teams, they were disciplined and in great shape. With those teams, we never heard boo about any quick turnarounds. Those teams never ran out of gas down the stretch of a game.
I'm glad the team won 20 games this year. Overall, it was a very successful season. More so when you factor in Wright's injury.
However, to take the next step forward, some of these issues must be addressed and fixed. I hope Coach can identify them and get them fixed.

A 20 to 21 win season! By all accounts a successful season! And still people are complaining about Jimmy!

With the way grade inflation has overtaken higher education, anything less than an A is akin to a failure in the classroom these days. Gotta get the A. Cum Laude grads means you attended class occasionally. Below that and you were enrolled and stayed four years and got your diploma for residency and paying tuition for four years.

Coaches are on a "pass/fail" system - the only letter grades that matter to this team are the ones they earn in the classroom, the ones that keep them on the team and give them a future. A 21 win season gets a passing grade with a needs improvement qualifier in a few of the categories! There was a time, too long ago, when Siena played in the post season and got paid for it.

Jimmy did a very good job this year. But Siena expects to go to the NCAA tournament. First year he got a B, last year a D and a B for this year. Averaged altogether about a C. He is 52-50 after three years (though we should have another game at least to play).
To be fair he took over a program that probably was at its lowest point in D1. He was left with very little talent when he took the job. That's not to make an excuse but to state a fact. However he also has made his own mistakes too.
21 wins, top 3, 100 RPI was good for this year but next year it is MAAC championship/NCAA or bust. Four really good seniors plus the most talented player on the team is probably a sophomore. We beat some good teams this year (Hofstra, St. Bona, UA, Iona (road) but we still have to do better against the top of our conference.
Only Monmouth, on paper, will have equal or better talent then us next year. But to keep being a contender he needs to continue to recruit. Sure you can't have 13 all-MAAC guys but no more "gift" scholarships or "projects"
We have to take the next step. Keep dominating at home but be come a better road team. No more Cornell, St. Peter's, Marist etc type of losses on the road.

That was before the NIT gave auto bids to the regular season champs. Last year 12 teams got auto bids to the NIT. Most of those would have never got in otherwise. When 32 at large teams were getting selected to the NIT it was so much easier for Siena to get in.

If this was two years about no way would I want to go to a "C" tournament but this team had a quality year. They deserve to be playing more basketball. Now next year I'm only interested in the NCAA or NIT. We might have "bought" postseason two years ago but this year we EARNED it.

What you say is perfectly true but there are at larges to the NIT and we haven't come close to having a reasonable anticipation that we'd earn one in a long time. I'd like to be in the NIT discussion with others than just the MTS's of this board. I will say we have come up a bit - this is the first year in too many where our RPI was even discussed.

Brown told Wyland yesterday that SECU was open if that was to be the case. "A good preview of next year's game." But why do I think HJ is screwing with us on this fine spring day?
