Obvious – Saints need to get off to better start vs Iona. Our guards are going to have to shoot better; Iona is going to really sag inside to help on Brett/JO/Lavon. Let’s get their foul prone bigs in foul trouble. Rubber match super excited for game tonight
On a side note was reading the Iona board and there is not a bigger group of crybabies in MAAC - they whine about refs, Whine about AJ not getting PoY, whine about Roundtree not getting DPOY( do they even watch the games?) I have new found respect for Manhattan coach Masiello- not once did he bitch about playing Siena in Albany- if Siena wins tonight, get ready for a flood cry baby comments by Cluess and Iona fans- easily the most delusional whiney fans in conference

Believe English and Robinson perhaps should have been co POY, not sure if their is a precedent for that or not. Can someone answer the question the kid that received ROY from Monmouth was a red shirt. Iona game interesting, refs let them play like Siena's chances.

Yes has been Co-Poy before-- impossible to happen now with 11 teams. Obviously a close vote between English and Robinson-- personally I think MAAC coaches got it right- Monmouth finished 1st -- but a case can certainly be made for English. In fact last night Jimmy said he voted for English

I just hope AJ isn't super fueled by not getting POY. Nico needs to have electrolyte boosts before the game and during every time out. I'm sure Hammer has this covered.

Or is there a different process now.

Line opened Iona -2.5 now a pick 'em in most spots.
Saints have to come out strong. We can't fall into another hole like we a couple of weeks ago or we're in big trouble. A nice early lead would be great to get the crowd into the game and Iona back on their heels..play from ahead all the way. Both games against Iona this year they've had the lead for 90% of the game..we were lucky to win on the road but couldn't come back in the re-match. Stay and play from ahead.
English will get his points...make him work for them. Don't let Washington, Williams or Much go off.
We have to rebound and defend the 3...JO, Brett and Lavon all should do work inside. We need Marquis and Nico to play the way they are capable of. Protect the ball - have to limit the unforced errors.
Let's go 40 minutes to Monday night!
Go Saints!!!!!!!!

POY has to be a 1st teamer. I think the issue with Rider was that there were 2 guys vying for the POY, including one of the Thompsons. Harnum, I believe, voted for one of the other 3 first team guys rather than give Thompson's competitor a vote.

Defending the 3 is what makes or brakes this game for the Saints, imo. You just can't let Iona shoot 77% from the 3. That first half stat from 2/22 sticks right out and explains the dominant lead Iona built up that night.
Allowing AJ English to score 30 + again won't help the cause either.
A focused start with strong 3 point defense and the Saints have a shot to keep marching.
GO SAINTS!

Iona's ball movement will create open looks no matter what defense is being played, they need to be off and Siena will need to hit their 3s at a good percentage.

No can dispute that Iona moves the ball very well. Yes Siena will need to shoot well and unfortunately how the game is called may come into play. Refs call game as they did last night Iona not that deep.

Cover the Iona players within 10ft of the 3 point line. If they beat our players off the dribble everyone needs to stay on their man and give up the 2 rather than collapse and foul or allow a kick out for an open 3. The other thing this would do is prevent all those crazy long rebounds the Iowna players were beating our guys to in the last game. Limit the catch and shoot 3s for Iowna tonight and this game is the Saints!

Limit the catch and shoot 3s for Iowna tonight and this game is the Saints! I'm torn on this. Iona is the one team that has a higher 2pt FG% than us. Yet we're the ones that have a higher points per shot than they do because we take more 2s and draw more fouls. It may seem odd to push them outside and focus on defending the 2 but I feel like that's the way to win. I cringe at every easy 2 they get because I know, no matter what we do, there's a chance that they'll get hot from three. I feel like we can control our 2pt defense more so than focusing on defending AJ English 30 feet out. The worst thing you can possibly do is be caught somewhere in the middle and they go off from both areas.

I say defend the three. They could keep shooting them and if they do it will be an easy Siena win. I'm confident in our teams ability to score but I don't think this team can absorb 3 or four threes in a row. I have a hunch that wormly is going to have to play more than 12 minutes tonight as it will be tough to keep wright and clareth out of ft.
