I hate these political posts on our Siena board, but I can't stay away from this one. "The reality is if Romney was President we would all be better off". Not my reality. Romney would have been absolutely owned by Congress, and you see how well they function. The most awful thing would have been his being bullied into another war--we're still paying for Cheney's adventure in Iraq, including the creation of ISIS (which the UK's Tony Blair now acknowledges was generated in part by the Iraq invasion). Trump is popular among certain people for the same reason as Limbaugh, Cruz and the other right-wingers. He speaks to people's fears, prejudices and ignorance--and he laughs all the while because he's getting more famous & making more money. As to Trump's business skills, the little bit of money ($1 million) his father gave him 40+ years ago is the equivalent to $5 million today with inflation figured in. By all accounts, he would have a much larger fortune right now if he had safely invested his money in bonds and the stock market rather than his various business ventures, in which he's failed many, many times. The adage "born on third base" applies. I don't take Trump seriously--the joke is on those who do. I get it, your a smart lib and people that don't think like you are ignorant and uninformed. Your post is pathetic. Romney was successful in Massachusetts working well with liberal democrats. Romney is not a divider, like the current president. Your analysis is not supported by the record. You can always tell when a conservative has lost the argument by his need to use the "liberal" word. Enjoy Trump's run while he's hot.

Not exactly. Even if he invested the entire sum and made 15% annually he would have 388 million now instead of 4 billion. And growing due to everything else you said. This is from that liberal rag...Fortune magazine--"Trump’s net worth has grown about 300% to an estimated $4 billion since 1987, according to a report by the Associated Press. But the real estate mogul would have made even more money if he had just invested in index funds. The AP says that, if Trump had invested in an index fund in 1988, his net worth would be as much as $13 billion. The S&P 500 has grown 1,336% since 1988." Well then you are mixing up your facts. If his fortune grew 300% since 1987 that means he already had 1.3 billion by that time-- not a bad sum of money since he started with "only" 1 million. You were making it seem like he could have invested 1 million in stocks and made more than 4 billion in 40 years.

Also the more I think about it, the author must not have taken account taxes. Trumps net worth already reflects paid taxes. -- the example does not. Who the hell is writing these articles? And why do people fall for them?

Enjoy Trump's run while he's hot. I'm not a Trump supporter, I'm on the Rubio bus. Using your logic I won the argument since you called all of us "right wingers" - people that think differently than you do. Liberal is a word that most libs are proud of. Do you want to be call progressive? You guys keep changing your label. In the end you are just disguised socialists, which is exactly what history will tell us you are. On Romney, people that understand the political spectrum would never consider Romney a real conservative or right winger, except a liberal.

Trump's current worth started with the paltry $1,000,000 loan from daddy but ballooned when daddy passed leaving him somewhere between $40M and $105M (some sources say his inheritance was closer to $200M). There is no indication in the record regarding whether Trump ever repaid the $1M, in part or in total. His fortune today can trace it's rebirth to a massive bank led bailout and infusion of government money (tax breaks, etc.), not only his business acumen. Laughable that he now wears the conservative label, a very opportunistic scheme.
Rat, you should be writing the history books you predict for the future. You have already rewritten the McConnell led and extremely successful plan, laid out right after President Obama's election, to stop any and all actions put forth during the President's term - that, sir, is the source of and reason for the "division" you now solely lay at the feet of our President. If I was to revert to name calling and labeling, one of your most prominent and frequently used techniques, I'd label you a revisionist. But for now I'll just let others hightlight your name calling when you are unable to answer fact based arguments with facts supporting your positions!

So you recovered from your beating on the gun rights debate? You didn't like the facts in that debate did you? Even the ones you provided! You make me laugh. Good day.
