@marksingelais: Before the first full team workout today, Jimmy Patsos said the only two sure starters for Siena are PG Marquis Wright and PF Brett Bisping.
@marksingelais: "Guys have got to earn their spots. Good news is we probably have 10 guys. Bad news is I'm only playing eight." - Siena's Jimmy Patsos

Bad news for Jimmy Paige since it is likely him, LaRose, and Gottfried that aren't in the 10. It's likely Smithen isn't in the 10, since he's not eligible. Jimmy is probably including JO in there though, so there are probably 3 besides Smithen.

Good coaches find a way to include everyone, not tell them they won't play. And the statement is BS anyway and not even true ... So why open your mouth! He'll name 10 different starters before the season begins.

I think last year there were 4 guaranteed starters around this time. I don't believe the 8 guys comment though. Last year, he generally used 9 guys. And that was even after Bisping, Silas, Wolfe, and Cole were all gone. I think that one is just to fire up the competition. With 14 "scholarship" players..you have to figure the top 10 will at least get some time. Take away Smithen and Gottfried and you're at 12 without thinking. If were me, it would seem 2 of Fisher, Paige, WB, Long, and LaRose would be out of luck...or just 1 if JO doesn't play.

Pretty sure Jimmy has said that before. Hopefully this year he will stumble onto a winning rotation early on and won't have to throw lineups at the wall to see what sticks.

Take it with a grain of salt. Jimmy does like to talk but every coach throws things out in the preseason.
My guess on the 10 (counting JO)
-Wright -Nico -Long -Bisping -JO -Silas -Oliver -Wormley -Fisher -Paige
Odd men out (for now) - Brandwijk, LaRose, Gottfried
Ineligible for 2015/16 - Smithen
If JO can't play Brandwijk moves up into the top 10.

If Brandwijk hasn't surpassed Silas yet, they should quietly send him to St Rose. Silas wasn't that good before and he's coming off a missed season. Stop it.. Branwijk is a soph Silas a 5th year senior

Not at all comfortable with the very premature "ranking" of the team by identifying starting players, the concept of a top 10, and the threat that only 8 will play thereby saying there are two or three elligible scholarshipped players that will be off the screen. Way too early and not helpful in developing team chemistry and individual players. I am certain Jimmy is giving the players a message but I don't think it needs to be in the public eye.

Brandwijk should be behind Silas but if he doesn't beat out Fisher and is buried on the bench then I can't see him sticking around. I wouldn't be too surprised if Cameron Gottfried is our only scholarship junior next year.

Yet another thread showing why this board is virtually unreadable.
It's September, let it play out. There's a funny thing that happens with college aged kids, they tend to improve their game and get stronger over the summer.
Rossiter averaged 1.9 points and 2.9 rebounds as a freshman behind Josh Duell. Brandwijk averaged 2.5 and 2.6 playing a similar amount of minutes. I am not saying that WB is Rossiter good but to be down on a player based only on his freshman productivity is foolish.

That development from freshman to sophomore year among bigs is exactly why it is a big problem if a sophomore Brandwijk can't beat out a freshman Fisher.

Stop it.. Branwijk is a soph Silas a 5th year senior Silas is a 5 th senior who has played 2 seasons and done nothing but block shots and foul out in 18 mpg. Now he's coming off a missed year. Brandwijk is a soph who came out of prep school. No reason he shouldn't have surpassed Silas. Stick to Albany hoops, at least with them you have some frame of reference.
