Both freshmen are struggling and now Jimmy is saying both were going to redshirt, which basically means he recruited two projects and a D2 player last season. Hardly a good reflection on Jimmy and his staff. WB will be all right, he has a high upside but he clearly wasn't ready for D1 ball. Same with Jimmy Paige, he is basically a 6'4" power forward. As time goes on and Paige learns to defend he can probably give us some time at the 3, but he is a little slow for the 3. All in all a the staff gets a early grade D for recruiting last season. Time will tell on both players. And not to sound like a broken record, but the staff better get 2 impact players- and not two kids we are going to hear about red shirting next fall www.saratogian.com/sports/20150114/injuries-force-siena-freshman-into-action

That's a little harsh. We all know Patsos likes to hear himself talk AND embellish while doing so. I'm sure he thought Paige and Brandwijk weren't going to get much time but no way in hell were they redshirting.

I'm sure he thought Paige and Brandwijk weren't going to get much time but no way in hell were they redshirting. Well he is the guy saying ( several times now) that both players were going to redshirt.. I tend to agree WB was slated to get "spot" min..Paige most definitely was a red shirt candidate.. We knew last year Poole and Hymes were graduating this year, we knew we weren't all that athletic. I dont think Paige fills either void. I understand you cant have 13 stars on team, but lets face it we were 2 games over 500 last season- its not like we were 25-5 and returning everyone. SO playing time would have been available for the right recruit. The injuries suck this year, and no doubt no matter who we recruited last year the team would be "down" but we are basically paying the price for the staffs weak/lazy recruiting last year. 2 projects and a D2 player is never going to get it done at Siena

So had the 2 guys redshirted...what was Jimmy's plan in case of injury? I agree 100% with Tony - he recruited 2 projects and a D2 player. He also had to know that Cole was an iffy situation. I like Jimmy but, much like Mitch, he made his own bed. This is totally unacceptable. I'm not sure any coach at any level can take a year off recruiting but given Siena's situation that Jimmy needed to swing for the fences. I'm also not confident that we have a Moore, Franklin or Ubiles coming in next year.
With Evan and Robbie graduating there goes 40% of the offense. What's Jimmy's plan? From where I'm sitting it looks like we are minimally 2 years out from a real post season (F* the CBI/CIT). Quite frankly I'm not even seeing it 2 years out. Brett may make up some points but with no perimeter game, teams are going to pack it in. We will be totally boned. For the first time in 20+ years I'm giving serious thought to saving $1K and giving up my seats. I really can't believe they blew the opportunity that Fran gave them. Siena was set and they totally screwed it up. That isn't all on Jimmy but he's done nothing to reverse the trend.

Boy we need a win to change the tune here. You must have been a "Mitch Lover". The goody goody boys on this Board call anyone who is honest and calls out JP, D'Arg Mullen or the rest of the Siena Admin for blowing the A-10 chance as "haters". If we accept mediocrity ( or now worse) we will surely get it. The people who really care about Siena basketball are the fans who pay the ticket prices, donate to the program , etc.. They deserve a good team. If Siena has the best arena, best fan base, and spends considerably more than most of its competition, then why can't we be critical of the people who have screwed this program?

Boy we need a win to change the tune here. I totally agree! Some on this board are totally disrespectful to the staff ! And it's pathetic!! People have to cam down ! I have no doubt Jimmy will win a MAAC Championship in the next few years!

TH24 - I don't think people are being disrespectful. Reality is hard to hear some times. Not trying to be argumentative but what leads you to think Jimmy will win a Championship in the next few years. I'm really looking for someone to make a good case so I can be optimistic. This is what I see: 1. This year is a loss. Even if we make some kind of run and pull a Lanier in the tourney, we're a PIG team. That's not really what I'm looking for. 2. We lose Rob and Evan. Consistent (for us) 3-pt shooting, backup PG, rebounding 3. We get Imoh and Brett back. Interior defense + offense 4. I don't know much about the kids committed to-date but I'm not getting the sense that there's a Showbiz or Ubiles in the bunch. 5. White and Paige are decent but haven't shown significant scoring ability 6. Nobody on the roster has been consistent at the FT line 7. Oliver went from national 3-pt ranking to o-fer. He could turn it around but he might not. 8. JO and WB will shore up the front court. Sans a consistent perimeter game teams will pack it in limiting our interior ability. 9. Lavon will be a contributor but may be force into more of an outside game which may/not go so well.
How do you see a Championship here? Our best players will be front court guys and we'll have limited ability to defend any better next year than this year.

We were headed for a championship before the injuries. Everyone will continue to get better. And this year is not a loss. We are 3-3 and I believe we can sweep the 4 teams under us right now. The glass is half full.

This has been an injury plagued season! What are expecting the staff to do ? Sign a free agent!? Make freshmen play like upper upperclassman ?! Make water into wine?! People really have to chill! Go watch the NFL playoffs, NHL, NBA...or get laid! But to disrespect the coaches and players....come on lads! We are Siena ...we are better than this!

The glass is half full. @ Canisius @ Niagara Marist St. Peter's The next 4 games are CRUCIAL. It's all still right in front of the team. Need to go 3-1 in these next four games. If we do we are right in the discussion for a top 4 finish. They are all winnable games if we can make a commitment to playing defense.

At some point Siena fans will have to consider that this is the new permanent reality of Siena hoops. It's year 6....

"We were headed for a championship before the injuries."
PPC - I'm not so sure. We were better with Imoh and Brett for sure and we'd have won a few more games but we didn't look great in the beginning of the season even with Brett and Lavon. I'm glad Lavon is back and getting better (physically) but we aren't even close to a Championship team. Next year We'll have Brett and Imoh but lose Evan and Rob. From a scoring perspective that's a net loss. It may be again in rebounding and defense but it is tough since we're losing 2 back court and gaining 2 front court guys.
We'll see but I'm not seeing a Championship this year or next year unless Jimmy bring in a class like Fran did.
