now amid last nights terrible loss ...........and for those of you ready to call for the coaches head, benching of players, tearing up your season tickets, jumping off a bridge and such.................where do you honestly feel the mens hoop program currently is? first, some facts need to be up front and center .......prior to Patsos, the 3 years under Mitch, the overall record was a very glossy 35-59, this includes a stellar 22-21 mark at home......................flip ahead post PW, and we are now in the Patsos era, where after 1yr and 2 games, we are staying afloat at 20-20, of which we are 14-6 when we are hosting (this includes a post season tournament championship, because the banner says so).......... your response should not involve an explanation of player rotations, appropriate minutes, what offense or defense we should be running, type of recruits we need or lack, player plus or minus abilities, etc...........................just give your take on where you think the program is right now absorbing the facts above.................. right direction wrong direction on target ahead of schedule behind schedule going nowhere fast doing just enough to keep season ticket holders happy other.......... If we all step back and respond with what should be the most common response, I think we would realize how far we have really come in such a short time..............that being said, have at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on target/ahead of schedule is about right. At the beginning of last year a .500 record was realistic upside goal. That was achieved and the way the season ended it upped the expectations for this year. But again, realistically, the team is still rebuilding and definitely not a finished product, so on target is a good description at this point.

Ahead of schedule, wrong direction, but still tons of time to get going back in the right direction.

It is what it is. The expectations of some are on the nutty side. Sit back keep your mouth shut and enjoy what happens. Good or bad, that's what fans do. Based on the few games so far this season Siena is no where near as good as many expected. Players that everyone expected to improve haven't showed it yet.
I hope some of you take this advice. Relax and enjoy its only a game. The maac board has been entertaining through this tough start

We are about at the same place Fran had us at. I compare it to Fran because it is very similar. Will it turn out the same? Who knows but I don't think you can discount it one way or another. Remember it wasn't "smooth sailing" until the end of Fran's second season. Siena was 11-10 (Fran's second year) and 26-23 overall before "the run" happened.
It's funny we're scoring plenty of points, playing uptempo but the reason we're 0-2 is because our defense/foul situation has been horrible.
Now comparing other Siena coaches who took over from a fired predecessor and inherited a major rebuilding job:
Jimmy is 20-20 (.500) after 40 games - winning MAAC record (11-9) (0-1 in MAAC tournament) CBI championship Fran McCaffery was 22-18 (.550) after 40 games - winning MAAC record (13-8) (0-1 in MAAC tournament) no postseason (No CBI/CIT back in 2006) Paul Hewitt was 26-14 (.650) after 40 games - winning MAAC record (11-10) (2-1 in MAAC tournament) no postseason (No CBI/CIT back in 1998)
Arguably Jimmy inherited a worse situation than Fran or Hewitt did. Fran had Jordan and Mensah his first year and got Haddix back in year two (along with David Ryan and Tay Fisher). Hewitt had Marcus Faison and a bunch of other really good players who fit his "system" Jimmy got a real solid player in Poole and a very good under the radar player in Bisping. Hewitt went to the NCAA tournament his second year. McCaffery went to the NCAAs in his third season. Mike Deane also went in his third season.
I'd say we're on the right direction/on target - some concerns but much more positive than negative so far. Last night completely sucked but I have faith in Jimmy going forward. I hope people aren't prisoners of the moment.
We should have high expectations but (and I am guilty of it too) maybe we expected too much too soon from still a young team. Let's face it we were 11-16 at one point last year and then got hot. If we are 16-11 after 27 games this year and get hot down the stretch finish 21-11 and win the MAAC title I think people would be very happy.

This may be an emotional response after the Vermont game but......I never endorsed Patsos...but after great CBI run I started to think I may be wrong....I stopped posting on this board for many reasons but the CBI run brought me back and made me once again enthusiastic for Siena basketball. Unfortunately I have to once again question Patsos as the coach for Siena. He is good but is he good enough.

come on folks, we have a TON more folks on here that post................if you have the time to prop or vent in other threads, you can certainly give your opinion on this subject, really it is all that matters.................. because in reality the highs & lows from game to game are enough to keep you on cloud nine or depress you to the deepest depths........... BUT if you truly understand where the program is, it allows you to put your feet back on the ground and survive until the next game is played!!!!!!!!!

About where I suspected we would be @ .500. Surprised and happy for the kids that they pulled off the CBI after we 'bought in'. Unfortunately, not convinced we can win the league or tournament. I will be happy to eat crow if proven incorrect.

On target, can't argue with results so far. We'll see what direction we are in. I think the admin is doing just enough to keep season ticket holders happy.
