Who's In?
After week 6, there are 10 undefeated teams. The first official ranking will be on October 28. What if the rankings were objective and only based on fewest # of losses with Ties broken based on # of opponent's Division 1 wins? Here is what they would look like now (# of opponent wins in parentheses):
1. Mississippi State (17) AP rank 3 2. Auburn (16) AP rank 2 3. Ole Miss (14) Ap rank 3 4. Florida State (13) Ap rank 1 4. Arizona (13) AP rank 10 6. Notre Dame (12) AP rank 6 7. Georgia Tech (12) AP rank 22 8. Marshall (10) AP rank 27 9. TCU (8) AP rank 9 10. Baylor (6) AP rank 5
Too early really to draw any conclusions from this but too date it looks like Arizona Georgia Tech Marshall appear to be under valued while Baylor looks like it is overvalued so far. Miss State, Auburn, Ole Miss and Florida State are in the top 4 under both polls while Notre Dame and TCu also have similar rankings in both polls.
How many 1 loss teams and 2 loss teams will leap over the undefeated teams at the end of the season? Will Marshall get any serious consideration even though they would have no quality wins on its schedule? I hate the SEC as much as any other non-southerner, but the league is tops this season--- will the committee select more than one SEC team?

After week 7, down to 6 undefeated teams. Looks like the playoff system is a failure already, as there will be a mishmosh of 1 loss teams, and 2 loss SEC teams will be falling all over themselves stating their case. But I digress...
Top 6 teams based on undefeated status and # of opponent D1 wins:
1) Mississippi State 20 2) Mississippi 19 3) Florida State 13 4) Notre Dame 13 5) Marshall 11 6) Baylor 8
Florida State plays Notre Dame tonight. Both teams have a questionable quarterback (on the field and off the field) but give the competitive edge to Florida State. Mississippi plays Tennessee, while Mississippi State plays Kentucky next week. Baylor is at West Virginia, while Marshall is at FIU.

Well only 4 undefeated teams left, and 2 of the play each other. SO, after week 8, here are the one loss teams:
East Carolina 6-1 Duke 6-1 Kansas State 6-1 Baylor 6-1 TCU 5-1 Michigan State 6-1 Ohio State 5-1 Minnesota 6-1 Nebraska 6-1 Notre Dame 6-1 Colorado State 6-1 Oregon 6-1 Arizona State 5-1 Arizona 5-1 Utah 5-1 Georgia 6-1 Alabama 6-1 Auburn 5-1
Too many to analyze, let's see how many get knocked off this weekend.
