Yes, let's all head back to where it all started. I guess that is why the left is often called progressive...they accept progress.

Liberal, socialist, even communists have described themselves as progressives.

Check out some of the quotes from JFK and you tell me if you notice any changes in rhetoric: “I don’t believe in big government”—Kennedy-Nixon Presidential Debate, 1960 “I believe in the balanced budget”—Kennedy-Nixon Presidential Debate, 1960 Would you ever hear those words come out of the mouth of Obama? Pelosi? Biden? Wasserman-Schultz? Think of the struggle between the two ideology's as a tug of war. We are a center-right country so the ribbon on the rope would start at just “right of the center”. The rope has been pulled so far to the left that the ribbon sits almost atop the people pulling on the left (Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz). In order to for this nation to settle back where it belongs it requires an extremely hard pull to the right so the ribbon goes back to it’s original place of right of center. If we don’t pull hard enough it will settle left of center and to the left that will mean progress. Doesn’t that make some sort of sense? Why is it that the Democratic Party of today wants the Republican Party to “moderate” its stance? Today, Republicans need to call upon disenfranchised Democrats asking them to moderate their stance by electing more “left of center” people instead of the “leftists” they have today. The problem is that today’s party of Obama, Pelosi and Reid control the campaign cash and this is NOT your father’s Democratic Party of JFK. There are plenty of things that JFK and Obama agree on, most notably their positions on Medicare and Social Security. Both of these programs, as we know, are bankrupting this nation. In my opinion, JFK would have made some major changes to these programs to save them. Obama and the left have no such interest. You might hear those words come out of a republican as well and yet... no balanced budget. The moment you and cellar realize polticians in general are blowing smoke up your ass it will be your first step in the right direction. The "Right" politicians are as full of bullshit as the "Left" In regard to your fixing comment... I find the left unwilling to budge as you indicated. I find the right simply watering the programs down to worthlessness or simply doing away with them all together. Neither are acceptable.

I agree in general with your post SF but I do see the Democrats as willing to make compromise to get legislation passed. The Affordable Health Care Act had many concessions to the Republicans in the Senate to shut off the filibuster (many people fail to acknowledge that the practical majority in the 100 seat Senate requires 60 votes and it has been a long long time since either party had that many sitting Senators). Last year, in an attempt (that naturally failed due to Republican obstructionism) to get a budget passed, the Democrats agreed IN TOTAL WITH NO CHANGES to the budget set forth BY THE REPUBLICANS - no changes, no strings! That caught the Republicans by surprise and they voted against THEIR OWN UNALTERED budget! Why? They are total obstructionists, that is their only goal. Look at the immigration issue - the Senate has passed, with a bipartisan majority, legislation over a year ago. The Republican led House won't allow it to come to the floor BECAUSE THEY KNOW IT WILL PASS and that would, aside from being a needed and great first step, also be a feather in President Obama's cap! They can't let that happen - they'd rather allow the immigration issue to simmer and delay, delay, delay......

This is again.. something you NEVER hear from the liberals today!
PRESIDENT JOHN F. KENNEDY: "We must be strong so that weakness does not tempt hostile nations into miscalculations. It has been encouraging to note that during the last months, our increased strength has produced more favorable tides in many parts of the world."
JFK knowing that peace through strength is the only way security happens!
