The best thing about recruiting BCS-type kids is when they look to transfer "down," it really helps if you developed a relationship with the kid and his family/people during the recruiting process.
And we all know what the transfer list looks like every year. Taking one (BCS level) every couple of years isn't the worst thing for a mid-major.

The difference was Fran and staff were always in pursuit. When I see Siena listed now, for the most part it's as the best program pursuing the recruit... often by far And they didn't land any of them except the aforementioned 2, so in the end how has the status quo changed in terms of the team's actual makeup? Siena was the best program pursuing the likes of Hasbrouck, Moore, and Franklin too. I kinda liked how that turned out. I wanna see them offer the best guys they reasonably have a chance of getting. Seeing Siena involved with a bunch of Big East guys doesn't do anything for me if they never come. There was a lot of competition for the likes of Long and Brandwijk. Each of them had over a dozen offers. Load up on guys like that who want to be at Siena and they'll be fine. If you want true up recruits, Siena would have to go the academically troubled juco/transfer route like Iona attempts to do. We are not getting them as academically qualified freshmen. If siena plans on recruiting as it is right now... plan on the schedule looking very Loyola-esque as it does right now. Im not buying the talent level of the program until I see them performing well against better teams than we are seeing on the schedule. The program is on the mend so ill take more of a wait and see approach... but there are some warning signs. And who was the highest to offer Brandwijk and Long? And what was offered? As far as we know Elon Vermont and Siena for Brandwijk. Long had some other offers but not for the position/style he wants to play

Brandwijk also had offers from Delaware and Hofstra of the CAA, among others.

We need to be patient and, as SF said, once again win some up profile games. Jimmy and staff arrived at Siena 15 months ago with a "Potential Recruits" file developed for the Loyola program. I am certain that file has seen some changes - discards and additions to reflect the Siena profile coupled with the expectation that finishing at the top of the MAAC and continued post season appearances are the "keep your job" goals here.

Nice try MTS but the reality is what it is... it came down to the schools. Elon Vermont and Siena... with Official offers Lavon followed a specific situation that was going to allow him to play some three.

You know how this game goes. Every kid has his own list and only the recruit and his circle along with staff know the status of the offer. Why not judge these offers just as you would a list of higher level offers on BCS recruits list. You do know the process is the same for them. Even worse at times with 10-15 names listed for one position on the website. Just saying if the school offered then leave it at that.

As far as we know Elon Vermont and Siena for Brandwijk. Long had some other offers but not for the position/style he wants to play As noted above, Brandwijk's highest offer was GW. Long had offers from VCU, Dayton, and St. Bonaventure if memory serves. The fact that these guys pared their lists down to schools that weren't the highest level among their options doesn't diminish the fact that they had the other offers that were higher. Not everyone automatically signs with the highest offer regardless of any other factor - the ones who do are why the transfer rate is so high. Some pursue the best fit, and those are the players likely to spend their entire career at one school. Brandwijk and Long both could have gone higher if that's all they wanted. But both ignored the league rankings and chose the school they fit best at based on a variety of factors. As a result, both are going to likely have the best 4 years of their lives. So ease up on the staff. They are getting it done on the recruiting trail slowly, but surely. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Will reclassifying reduce the likelihood of Kevin coming to Siena and going to a higher mid-major? If he's a Jr this yr (2014-15) and attends prep, does that put him in the 2017-18 college freshman yr? We may need another back-up PG by then.

With the young team we had last year and the way they developed the second half of the schedule I feel they would have been very competitive with the tough teams; Purdue, LaSalle, St. Joe's, in the early part of the schedule and the two home ot losses to Canisius and Quinnipiac where we would have won 2, 3 or more games.
