So in their collective opinions it must better to let the country be ruined from the inside out and the world become unstable due to our lack of leadership......

See the liberals and those claiming to be independent on this board are as bad as the (ahem) moderate muslims. WTF? you say ... well like the moderate muslims who fail to truly stand up and fight against the radical muslim terrorists these liberals and independents who are quite on issues like this further embolden and empower abuses like what occurred at the IRS by not pushing hard for justice for their fellow american citizens... tisk tisk!!!

Absolute arrogance: Listen to why the IRS commissioner says the IRS doesn’t own anyone an apology…

How is it possible that emails at an organization like the IRS can be 'lost' permanently because somebody lost their hard drive (6 individuals I think)? There are servers (Exchange most likely) where these emails come from and which normally save most emails that get sent. A good IT dept also takes backups on a regular basis in case something happens to the server.I don't get why these basic IT questions are not being asked.
Can some of the Obama supporters address this? MP - What do you think of this? It just seems very fishy; even fishier that questions are not being asked.

Yet another example of the IRS overstepping its bounds - that has been going on for years and years and periodically rises to this level of media/partisan Congresssional "interest". The IRS function includes auditing tax exempt organizations just as they audit other businesses and individual returns, etc. The IRS top brass are political appointees and the lower level management types are, as in any employment situation, looking primarily for advancement. The explosion of tea party fund raising organizations was sure to attract lots of "attention" no matter which party was in power. Looking at it from a strictly non-partisan viewpoint, we all would agree that each and every application for tax exempt status would get evaluated closely. Bottom line - no big deal - no laws were broken based on what we know now.
The hard drive issue is very fishy. One would assume that hard drive contained other sensitive information and, upon its reported failure and subsequent attempts to save the data also failing, that it would have been destroyed - read that incinerated - that's what happens to classified DOD/DOE hardware. Bottom line - its missing state now is not surprising. As to the attempts to resurrect the drive, that fails the sniff test big time - a mechanical failure would not completely destroy all of the data on the drive. The data should have been recoverable to some degree - certainly not 100% but definitely not 0%, IMO. This seems to me to be similar to the missing 18 1/2 minute gap in Rosemary Wood's tape! Not picking on the right, just recalling an event that smelled the same way, was political in nature and got tons of media attention due to an upcoming election. I can't believe that all of the info on that drive is not also sitting on a mass storage device somewhere in the bowels of the IRS - no adequate response as to why this isn't the case has yet been offered. The IRS saves everything - how many have experienced IRS inquiries based on years old personal data that finally works its way to the top of the IRS action item list.
I believe a middle management or higher political hack saw the tea party emergence as an opportunity to score some political points and amped up the audit function. I doubt it was policy dictated by the head of the IRS or anyone high in the Obama Administration, it just doesn't seem to rise to that level of attention given all of the other shit happening.

MP - they admitted wrong-doing. It was illegal - they gave confidential info to political opponents. They also didn't fairly apply the rules. Worse THEY ARE STILL DOING IT.
It may have been a lower-level/mid-level manager trying to make a name for themselves but if that's the case, why is LL's email lost? Seems like there were several higher ups minimally in the know if not directing the attacks on conservative groups. As you probably know, management that knowingly allows a behavior is considered to be actively liable.
