...and NBA fans are low turnout Democrats. Full story: cookpolitical.com/story/7234I just found this interesting. It helps to explain why so many sports message boards with off-topic sections tend to skew conservative/libertarian. I thought soccer would be on the high turnout side, but I guess I'm just thinking of the guys at Wolff's Biergarten and not all the soccer fans who emigrate to this country. I also probably would have thought less of NASCAR in terms of voter turnout, but that's because I'm a damn Yankee.

cookpolitical.com/story/7234 Very, very interesting graph and article (http://cookpolitical.com/story/7234). It is amazing how much information can be gathered, without our direct knowledge or approval, from our DVR's. I'm guessing the size of the colored balls represents the audience size but can't determine if it's a total over a season of telecasts or some average but I'd bet on total viewership for the full season. There must be some interesting long range (not sure how far in advance tv ads need to be booked into an event/time slot) projections/predictions on which games will have big draws vs early turnoffs. I used to think the back to back or double running of the same ad during a timeout was an oops but now think they may also be planned as a lot of viewers hit the head/frig at the start of timeouts and return during it. The study was performed by a GOP group but I am certain their is zero political bias in the study itself. The article mentioned the link to voting patterns but was silent on what that conclusion was based on - I, personally, would have found the basis of those determinations very interesting, i.e., how do they determine if or how a NASCAR or NCAA fan will ultimately vote. I can see the tie to PGA Golf - it's generally an audience of higher income (country club members, golf players) folks who are more likely (based on income demographics) to be Republican - the high concentration of Cadillac, Mercedez Benz, BMW ads during major golf tournaments supports that view, IMO. I wonder if the DVR monitors those brief intra inning channel switches to check other games in progress as well. The cable industry must employ a lot of NSA retirees! Again Ed, thanks for sharing this.
