HJ, I get your point but I think there is a subtle difference in our cross-town rivalry. UA is not in the MAAC - if they were, you would not see one congratulatory post on this board, IMO anyway. We, thankfully, only have to play them once a year and there is zero chance we would ever face each other in the tournament. The teams your post cited as examples of fierce no-holds barred rivalries are either intra-conference opponents or possible/likely matchups at some point in the big dance each year. UA's rise in athletics is a fact of life and we can only hope that it further stimulates and supports/maintains a similar, ongoing commitment at Siena - afterall, we want to stay the number 1 D1 program in the area and UA is, overall, making that more of a challenge. Keeping the lacrosse world focused on the capital region can only help us in recruiting. You are overall a far more accomplished D1 basketball program...as an overall athletic dept, Siena can't hold a candle to UA. That's just the truth...we passed you very long ago... I wouldn't think that UA would need us to hold a candle to your athletic department - you obviously have unlimited funding and I would guess electricity would be in the budget, besides that, Siena has previously illuminated the way for UA and you guys are doing a great job following that path!

Talk about sports Siena has in common with Albany. That would be basketball and Lacrosse. Siena holds the upper hand in men's basketball and Albany has it on the women's side. I think it's fairly even in Lacrosse. I'm not sure they play each other in baseball, volleyball, or softball. You think a 9-2 split or is it 10-2 is even in lacrosse? Again, it's not close...

The whole "rivalry" goes way deeper than just sports. It's a way of life. Sorry, I didn't state the obvious and say the UK/UL basketball game isn't on the same level as our AE/MAAC match-up. I forgot who I was talking to. It's all got to be spelled out for you. As for the KIDS playing, of course they do, no one mentioned them in the rivalry. It's about the FANS that have been cheering for each school for decades. The kids at Duke/UNC are there for several months and out. (Ask MJ what he thinks about Duke) The football example (Bama/Auburn) is decided at birth. Do some research and see how many fans of either team would root for the other school, even in field hockey. The only time the game and the word "discountinued," get bought up, is when each fanbase fights over location, ticket allotments etc....not lack of interest you twit. And I can't believe what a racist you are calling those fans in the south, and me, REDNECKS?? Do you always make a habit of grouping people together based on their assummed beliefs based on location?? Wow, you're the Donald Sterling of Westchester!! I tried to warn you that you would just keep embarrassing yourself, would you listen? Nope! So now, tell me how a mid-major basketball game that is meaningless to anyone outside a 25 mile radius of downtown Albany, dictates how you live your life or your "way of life"? That's just sounds kind of scarey. While you are at it explain how I am now a racist, would you mind elaborating as to which race? The Donald Sterling reference would seem to indicate one thing, but I am having trouble connecting the racial dots. And finally, as anyone with a fourth grade education can see, I said YOU had redneck class and sportsmanship, I said nothing about anyone else, from the south or anywhere else.

The only thing "scarey" (sic) is your spelling. Guess the 4th grade was tougher than you thought?? I know my life could never compare to yours, but I'll manage I referred to "the rivalry" YOU choose to put the spotlight on (UK/UL), which is 100 times more intense then the UA/Siena rivalry. THOSE people, and Bama/Auburn people, IT IS A WAY OF LIFE. Now go buy your purple and gold jersey, and root your Danes home! I have to go root for the Yankees and Mets to tie tonight becaue I love 'em both!! lol

Sorry, I don't think some of you understand the meaning of the word, "rivalry" and how it pertains to Siena and UA. Do you think Louisville posters ask their fans to root for UK in any sport?? Alabama fans to cheer on good ole Auburn?? Duke fans to "bring home a W for UNC?" Should I go on and on?? You my word twisting fellow poster are the one who brought up real rivalries, not me. Now explain to me why, or be man enough to appologize for, calling me a racist.

Now you categorize me as a "redneck," but want me to apologize? Don't hold your breathe. You definitely grouped all the people from the UK/UL "rivalry" as having the same mentality I have about not rooting for your arch-rival. Connect the dots dummy. If I'm a redneck for not rooting for UA, then every UK, UL, Duke, NC etc...fan is the same in your eyes. The backhanded racist analysis you came up with shows the real you, and now you don't like how it looks. Wouldn't be the first time a northener called people from the Commonwealth "rednecks." Bet you'd be great to hang out with on election night! Guess you're not as "pure" as you think.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I am a red Sox fan living in Yankee territory. When the Yankees win the series I acknowledge their victory to their fans. I also receive congrats from many Yankee fans when the Sox win.
Acknowledge the accomplishment! They earned it!
I don't live up there anymore so I may not understand the current climate rivalry wise but, Marist, Niagara, Manhattan and Iona are bigger rivals IMO. And I root hard for them in their OOC games because wins by them against quality teams helps the conference and its RPI. I actually root for wins by any team on our schedule, other than when we are playing them, since their success helps our strength of schedule. Call me casual.

Sent from my SPH-L710 using proboards Never said I didn't acknowledge the accomplishment. It's a quality one. Just don't ask me to root for them. Sharing the same town makes them our biggest rival, no question about it. You don't see many Iona or Manhattan fans very much in Albany.

I would consider myself a die hard Siena basketball fan but I am also a local sports fan so do root for Albany whenever they are not playing Siena. If that doesn't make me die hard then so be it but I can tell you that despite rooting for Albany the bulk of the year, losing to them hurts more than any other game and ruins my week.

Unfortunately, I think you'd be in the majority out here with your point of view. Maybe Tony could start up a poll. But let's get this straight, I CAN respect any signature win any of the UA sports program achieves, but don't ask me to root for them. Those are two totally different animals.
