This team has OD who has a ton of experience but is very limited on the offensive end. The rest of the team is basically freshmen and a handful af guys who played as freshman and a few guys who only practiced. This team will have growing pains, it should get better as the season goes on.

This is Mitch’s 3rd year – time to produce ..Siena is not Marist- I think coaches are held to a higher standard here-- and rightfully so. And every coach hired at Siena knows those expectations when hired

Against smaller lineups, and even against MAAC teams, he can virtually get anything he wants in the paint. Also, Evan ran the team quite successfully at the point last year, and you have Rahk coming back who also ran the point well his freshman year to now move back to his natural spot at the two. With the two of them running the show from the backcourt, you have two quick, very good ballhandlers with full seasons of experience under their belts. I'm not overselling the team, but I don't think they're as inexperienced in the starting five as most might think.

It's a new year. A new board. Time to turn over a new leaf perhaps?
18 wins has long been the goal. I predicted on 20-10 on the other board heading into the MAAC tourney. I said "cautiously optimistic" here. The MAAC is a buzzsaw this year but I feel strongly about that 3rd place finish...and a few pundits agree.
This team is healthy, deep, fast, big, and takes care of the ball. Shooting should be better. I like all three frosh. They all have ball skills. Bisping handles the ball better than Wignot and he's a PF.
If Mitch can up the tempo without losing that solid interior D, then go for it. Hymes and Brookins will be unleashed this year in transition since they can back each other up effectively. That alone will raise the tempo. Rob Poole is now the only non-transition guard on the team and he leads the team in assist ratio.
Should be a good year.

Welcome back, Jack! 18 wins is my minimum with the schedule and our talent level honestly I expect a few more wins

Funny how some predicted single digit wins last year are now looking for 20 plus wins this year. I think a over. 500 record would be a step in the right direction with all the inexperience on the roster. I'll take some 62 - 58 wins with a 7 or 8 man rotation rather than some 88- 82 loses with a 10 man rotation and uptempo pace. “IRA” aka “Big papi - A .500 record is all that is needed for the coach…..boy you must be “neutral”….lol All the inexperience…..let me see we have 1) OD experience 2) Trenity experience 3) Evan experience 4) Rakeem experience 5) Davis experience 6) Rob experience Lacking game experience but benefited from a full year practice with the team 1) Lionel 2) Imoh I don’t think “Experience” is lacking with this team. It only takes 5 players We have 8. I also will take a 62 -58 win, but I will also take an up-tempo win as well. In fact the coach is the one that said he has the ability to run this year. This year there are no excuses 20 wins would be nice. Read more: www.sienahoops.com/index.cgi#ixzz28xBZY1gQ

I'll take some 62 - 58 wins with a 7 or 8 man rotation rather than some 88- 82 loses with a 10 man rotation and uptempo pace. Considerable step down in strength of schedule and large step up in depth on the roster. Most considered the graduates role players at best and some even said they werent D1 caliber basketball players. They followed that up with calling it "the mess Fran left Mitch". Throw in injuries and eligibility issues. If that team can play a considerably tougher schedule and manage double digit wins then this team can play a NEC schedule and manage 20. As another poster commented, the end of this year sees the last of the McCaffery era in OD and Martens leaving. At some point pressure builds for success, that is unless we are a middle of the road MAAC team and should expect long droughts between competitiveness. Maybe the expectations have just been too high for too long.

I'm being cautiously optimistic, and predict 19 wins. 8 OOC W's and 11-7 in MAAC play, which looks to be a real grind this year.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the Freshman in action. On paper (or highlight videos) it looks like each one contributes an asset that this team needs: Audu seems to be a slashing guard this team has lacked, Oliver looks to be a legitimate outside threat, and Bisping gives us a good sized "4" that can hit an outside shot and shoots FTs extremely well. If they can positively contribute on a team that should already have some depth, I anticipate a fun season ahead.

As an FYI, Martens redshirted last year.
He has the option to come back next year as well. It remains to be seen if he will. Siena isn't exactly known for its masters programs.

Rumor has it Brady will be walking the tear trail. Where would that leave Big Chief? Brady jobless make Chief sad. Chief remember Brady as little brave. Chief does not want to see Brady scalp on JMU teepee.

I believe the optimism is justified. We have a go to player in OD who is a high character kid and a leader. We have athletic guards that can be disruptive and create scoring opportunities off the bounce. We have athletic bigs who can finish and rebound. We have in Poole a glue guy with high BB IQ that will only get better. We have 3 Frosh who will compete for minutes which is never a bad thing. We have the potential for a deep bench should Mitch choose to spread minutes around. We have some athleticism at the 2/3 spots necessary to guard people. The only question mark as I see it is our ability to knock down the 3 ball consistently. That aside, Siena has all the intangibles that a Mid Major needs to make a run if things go well. Feeling good.

Spoke w/some of the players & coaches tonight (festive vino). All seemed really eager to start practice tomorrow and are optimistic for the season. It's contagious!
