Time to start and pin this thread. BALTIMORE, Md. -- While Baltimore prep hoops may have had a recent hiccup in the junior and seniors classes as far as elite, top-shelf talent, everyone in ============= City knows the next great wave of talent rests in the underclass ranks. This week TT begins a series profiling that next wave in Baltimore, which spans from St. Frances to Mt. Carmel to even Gilman, which hasn't been known as a hotbed of hoops but has its own wave of freshman and sophomore talent rising up. Stop one was this week, at the Baltimore Elite AAU program's workout April 22 in the city, where local veteran coach xxxxxxxx Carrington rolled out a bevy of talent. All of the players had been contacted by the Terps or took in a game or two at Comcast Center unofficially this winter. St. Frances rugged sophomore guard Khalil Richards is already hearing from Maryland, Indiana, Clemson, Notre Dame, Miami, among others, while he has early offers from Loyola, Siena and Cornell. The 6-foot, 175-pound lead guard averaged some 15 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals as a starter this season in the shadows of UNLV-bound Dwayne Morgan, Meanwhile, in the classroom, Richards sports a 3.75 GPA. He has an uncanny way to find the basket, and get off shots, and backs down from no one. He fills the stats sheet with his strong floor game, doing a bit of everything, and locks up at the defensive end as well. Said his AAU coach Carrington: "Khalil is special. I love Khalil. He's got 'it,' as he can make every shot. He can make shots off the right foot, off the left foot, floaters, mid-range, long-range game. Been doing it all his life, in the gym all his life as ball boy, you name it, as his dad is a coach. His dad is a rec ball coaching legend around here. "He's special. Him and [SFA sophomore guard Daquein] Bracy are going to bring us back with that Baltimore toughness in the little guard style." Richards said he has seen Terps assistant xxxxxxxx Ranson in the gym scouting the team be it workouts or games this year, while Maryland coaches have been in contact with his coaches. "I just play hard, humble guy, get my teammates involved and I just want to win. I am not worried about my numbers. As long as we win I am happy," Richards said. On the Terps, Richards said he would love a Terps offer and would strongly consider them if it happened. "Maryland, it's a great program of course, and a very nice place down there," Richards said. "I have followed Maryland over the years and of course that would be a big offer." Richards admits UConn has caught his fancy a lot now, moving past early childhood favorite Syracuse. "But I have always liked their guard play, going back to when Kemba Walker played there," Richards said. Richards is off to the Spring Fling this weekend in New Jersey with Elite, followed by Boo Williams in Virginia in May. "I just want to focus on my leadership skills. Lead my team because eventually I am going to have to lead, and I am kinda the lead voice now," Richards said. "So that is basically my standard right now." I usually don't post on a kid unless mentioned with Siena, but he is local and getting decent looks.
After averaging 18 points per game this past season, the stock of 6'1" guard Ty'jon Gilmore (Watervliet '16) is surely on the rise. He has made great strides in his game, and he is starting to see a couple colleges notice and start showing him some attention early on during this AAU season.
Ty'jon Gilmore Gilmore was one of a number of talented sophomores in the Section 2 Capitol Region this past season, and the combo guard said he attributes his improved play during the year to hard work, but to get to where he eventually wants to be, he says improving all aspects of his game is what he intends to do.
"I feel like I developed better ballhandling, I made more shots, and was just calmer on the floor, but I'm going to keep working on my weaknesses to get to where I want to be," Gilmore said.
Gilmore added that he feels he can put up even bigger numbers next year, and he hopes that an even better season will lead to more success for the Cannoneers who finished 10-8 this season.
During the spring and summer, Gilmore will play his AAU ball with the Albany City Rocks on the 16u level. It's a very talented team, and they will play a strenuous schedule, but that's just how Gilmore wants it.
"It's a great team and we all get along really well. I like the competition we play, and I'm really looking forward to texted myself against some of the top teams out there," Gilmore explained.
In terms of college interest, he is still young, and though he doesn't have an offer at this point, 2 schools are calling and showing the most interest at this early point.
"Drexel and Boston University are the two I'm hearing from the most," Gilmore stated.
He shined on the H.S. level, and is starting out extremely strong on the AAU circuit as well, so it's just a matter of time until even more schools start to notice the talents of this impressive young guard

From GymRate Challenge:
Kevin Huerter, 6'4" PG, The Pride (Shenendehowa '16)- Everything about Huerter screams future star. He has great size for the 1, which led to an impressive ability to see over the defenses and hit cutting teammates going to the rim. He was aggressive attacking as well, and while he is known for his ability to knock the down the three, that wasn't as on Saturday, but he didn't force it, understanding that he could still cause havoc in many other ways. May grow to 6'5" with his body shape and if he does, and maintains his good lateral defensive quickness, he really will be a name everyone talks about.

A bit on both players-- at 6'5" Anthony Lamb may end up at mid level-- kid is a player
HENECTADY, NY – Shortly after the City Rocks won the 16-under Age Division championship of this year’s GymRat CHALLENGE AAU tournament, coach Jim Hart heaped much of the credit for the team’s success on the squad’s standout 6-foot-5 post player Anthony Lamb.
“He’s our Charles Barkley,” said Hart, comparing the powerful inside contributions of Lamb to those made by the freakishly athletic Barkley during his NBA prime.
“Anthony is next to impossible to stop inside,” added Hart. “He doesn’t have a soft game in him. He’s capable of a 20-20 (points and rebounds) in any game.”
Lamb didn’t quite reach those gaudy numbers, although he did have a game-high 20 points along with eight rebounds in the championship contest, to help the City Rocks earn a decisive 58-41 victory Sunday evening at Union College.
Lamb might have played like Barkley, but at 6-foot-5 and a well-proportioned and chiseled 220, or so, pounds, he doesn’t look like the NBA Hall of Famer whose physical girth earned him the fitting nickname of “The Round Mound of Rebound.”
But Lamb once looked a lot more like Barkley in terms of body type than he does now, having weighed about 285 pounds a little over a year ago. That he doesn’t look like that anymore is probably the reason his game now approximates Barkley’s in a relative sense.
“People told me I needed to lose the weight, and I can really tell the difference now that I have,” said Lamb, who is entering his junior year at Greece-Athena High School in the Rochester, N.Y., area. “I really worked on it. I did a lot of running and played a lot of basketball.”
Lamb’s work on the hardwood is much improved, due to his better physical condition. Now, he only looks like Barley on the court and not in the mirror. “I feel like my hard work is paying off,” he added.
Paying off, indeed. Paying off in terms of, now, being a dominating presence in the paint in leading the ACity Rocks to a GymRat CHALLENGE championship. And paying off individually too with a Most Valuable GymRat award and a bright future for the rest of his high school career….and beyond.
16-U GymRat CHALLENGE MVG – Most Valuable GymRat
Anthony Lamb, 6-5 power forward, Albany City Rocks-Black/Greece-Athena H.S.: A rare combination of strength, height, coordination and athleticism that makes him a very dangerous and effective post player. He runs the floor very well, is a terrific rebounder and has the ability to finish through contact around the rim. A Charles Barkley-like beast here throughout the GymRat who absolutely OWNED the paint and the glass. He made an incredible 76 percent from the floor in eight games while clearly establishing the paint as his dominant domain.
16-U ALL-GymRat CHALLENGE TEAM
Anthony Gaines, 6-4 wing, Albany City Rocks-Black/Kingston H.S.: An explosive athlete that can defend, rebound and score. He had several highlight-reel type dunks in the event and showed an ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. A very effective rebounder who is all over the glass on both ends.

Another target from western NY wehave offered
Talk about it in the smu Message Boards 2016 small forward waiting for SMU offer
Larry Brown's tenure in the NBA impacted a number of young basketball players who grew up watching his teams.
One of these players is Kenmore West (Buffalo, NY) small forward Aaron Tucker.
"My interest (in SMU) is very high because my dad and I are from Detroit so we were around that era when the Pistons won a championship and Larry Brown coached," Tucker told PonyPride. "So I'm a big Larry Brown fan, it'd be an honor to play for him."
Tucker also watched a lot of SMU basketball last season and has a feel for how Brown is running things down at the Hilltop.
"I think I would fit perfectly in that system. I don't think you can label me one, exact position and Larry Brown likes really versatile guys," Tucker said. "And he's a defensive coach and that's what I predicate my game on is my defense."
The Mustangs' interest in the 2016-prospect came after one of his performances this summer.
"My AAU coach told me because one of (SMU's coaches) evaluated me at one of our games, against the Illinois Celtics and they're like a top-10 team. I scored 28 points, my dad got the email and they've been in contact with us ever since," Tucker said.
Tucker has offers from Toledo, Siena and St. Bonaventure. He has interest from Creighton, Clemson, Oklahoma and DePaul.
"My dad and the coach he talks to, Ulric Maligi, they said they're definitely going to offer and when they send it I'll probably verbally commit to SMU," Tucker said.
As he waits for that SMU offer, Tucker is still hard at work.
"I was working on my handling, my footwork, especially my defense," Tucker said. "And shooting the three-ball better. I shot okay this year (before transferring to Kenmore West) but I'm working on my range of shot."
