I know 99% of us on this board WANT the Saints to win, but this poll is - if you were an ESPN analyst, who would you pick to win the league's tourney?

I think most people like Iona, which would be a shame since they always choke in the NCAAs.

I think Manhattan wins the tournament. But if they lose to Canisius tomorrow I might re-think that. Because they will have to play us (which will be a battle) and then Iona in the semifinals just to get to Monday night.

The problem for Manhattan is it is very hard to win 3 tough games in 3 nights when your team turns the ball over and misses foul shots and puts the other team at the free throw line.

Iona if their offense can keep humming along and if they remember to play a little defense.
Manhattan if they can fix their turnovers and foul shooting.
Canisius if Billy Baron can will his team to win.
Quinny lost Shannon for the rest of the year but Drame and Azotam are still beasts, so they have a slim shot.
I wouldn't count us out boys. Pending what we do on Sunday, we should be still of one of the hottest teams in the MAAC. Sure we have played very close games but we are learning from our mistakes and becoming a NCAA Division One team.
Iona, Manhattan, and Baron's Griffins may have talent, but if the boys keep learning Jimmy's press, we could make it interesting in the MAAC.
The last game when I was watching the Saints, I thought for a minute I was watching Jimmy's Greyhounds. Whatever talent wise Jimmy had on the roster back in the day, you did not want to play those teams because they were so tough.
And I'd like to think the rest of the MAAC is a little worried to play Siena.

Iona...they have so many weapons. Love the way the saints have turned up the defensive intensity recently though. Might be fun to watch them matchup.

Of course I picked Siena. If the tournament was being players at Iona or at Manhattan, then yeah I'd give them the nod. It's at a neutral site, an arena style site. Most MAAC teams don't play in that type of environment. Yes, Iona has weapons, but we played them tough and could have won at home.
Statistically, the #1 seed wins less than 50% of the MAAC tournaments (although Iona is one of only 4 teams that have won it 3 times as the #1 seed (Siena, Manhattan and LaSalle are the other three)).
As I posted in another post, this is the 20th anniversary of the 1st time a #5 seed won the MAAC Tournament (1994 Loyola). Is it just me or is it a freaky coincidence? Jimmy is an ex-Loyola coach and Siena is the #5 seed. Sorry, but that's just too much of an omen to me.
I hate to be so arrogant but I truly believe Siena will win the tournament and most likely have to play in the NCAA PIG in Dayton. I like our chances there since Siena is 2-1 in that arena. Worse case scenario, we lose in the MAAC Finals and possibly get invited to one of the lesser post season tournament.

I think Jaspers and gals are best teams in MAAC this year, but if Jaspers lose today their road will be too tough -- so I'll hold off with my pick until games today are over

Worse case scenario, we lose in the MAAC Finals and possibly get invited to one of the lesser post season tournament. The C tournaments won't take a MAAC team with a losing record. It's NCAAs or bust for Siena.

It's NCAAs or bust for Siena. They CIT might take Siena with a 17-17 record. If you are willing to pay the $60,000 or whatever it is to host a game I'm sure they'd considered us.

I guess we could say MAAC Championship game or bust. The MAAC kicks in money to pay for CIT bids. I don't know how exactly that works, they may just pay enough for the away games.

If it can't be us then I would like to see Cansius win, despite this giving "CC" license to troll our board some more. I just hate Iona and Manhattan so much I can't vote for them

I think this is one of the most wide open MAAC tourneys in a while with any of the top five seeds having a shot at the title. Here is what I am thinking:
Iona- the favorite, the SI pre-season pick to make it into the dance and a team with many offensive weapons
Manhattan - coaches picked them early on - pesky and persistent on defense - big question is ankle of Alvarado - Brown a real force as rim protector
Canisius - if they play as a one man band, relegating Manhertz to play second fiddle, the music is a swan song - if they work with the whole orchestra, watch out!
Siena - Wow! - most improved team in the MAAC as the season has gone on - Monmouth today (beat Siena by 4 early) was no match - impressive four game win streak
Quinny - top rebounding team in nation, but Marist put a hurting on them - losers of two in a row going in
Rider - expect early exit - how could you not?
St. Peters - gritty half court battling team
Marist - broke out of their slump today
Monmouth, Fairfield, Niagara - not their year
So, I am hoping for Siena's great run to continue, but if not, I look for Manhattan to take the crown.
