Ouch-- imagine if any of our reporters had half the guts if this one.... As for turf eon sounds like a lot of mediocre coaches--- unable to learn and adapt.

It will be interesting to see if Maryland (and Rutgers) get a recruiting advantage by competing in the Big Ten. You get to stay at an East Coast university, but travel to Big Ten basketball.

Wow. Why don't you tell us how you really feel, Jason Reid?
I watched last night's Cuse-MD game; I hadn't seen the Terps play at all this season before then, but from what I saw yesterday, his observations are spot-on. They were truly terrible, the only reason it was a close game was because Syracuse simply could-not score, and their short rotation got even shorter when Jerami Grant was kept out in the 2nd half due to injury. Maryland looked truly uninspired.

They dont recruit well at MD. The are more interested in rankings and offers than the talent. More highly ranked guards coming in next year just like what they already have.

Well the best way to judge talent is to evaluate it yourself. The rankings are wrong more than right from my experience.

Tough break for Kentucky then with its 6 McDonalds all americans in its freshmen class. Those guys have been at the top of the class since middle school. Every top 100 player is not headed to the NBA but they all think they are....the guys at the top 1% are easy calls but there are many more with high rankings that dont deserve it and guys outside of the top 100 that should be in and ranked higher

Well the best way to judge talent is to evaluate it yourself. The rankings are wrong more than right from my experience. You keep saying that- I’ve told you I’ve been tracking recruit ranking for last 15 years – yes we all agree recruit ranking are far from infallible- we can all quote a high ranked player that bombed or a low ranked player that was conference all star- so mistakes can and do happen- but overall the rankings are right far more often than wrong Let’s look at better players in MAAC: Antoine Mason- had several mid majors offers from MAAC CAA and A10 Billy Baron – was ACC recruit- enough said – top recruit – top 200 player George Beamon – 84 ranking espn – decent rankings- but not superstar – top 350 player AJ English- ranked 88 by ESPN – top mid major rankings no surprise he is as good as he is, max preps top 100 player( – top 300 player hoopscoop Marvin Dominique – signed with a10 program- was one of top ranked players in Florida – top 300 player David laury ESPN ranking 87 - top 300 player ( prep school) Sean Armand- prep school espn ranking 85- top 300 player So go ahead and find 7 under the radar players in MAAC better than 7 I just posted-- Mason was biggest surprise in that group he had decent ranking but probably wasn't a top 300 player closer to top 500- so if you want to call him a sleeper I wont argue- but he was fairly well ranked and had several good "offers" and this year is no different than last 15 years- in any given year the top 10 players in the MAAC 8 came into MAAC with good to very good recruit rankings- always have a Kenny Hasbrouck or Antoine Mason type mixed in there- but they are in minority by far I could go on and on- the top of any conference in D1- and you’ll usually find the best team has overall the best recruits- talent makes coaches look good- yes it’s great to find an under the radar recruit- it can and does still happen ( usually more busts in under the radar players than hits) but any coach solely relying on under the radar recruits won’t make a top school in any good D1 conference let alone Siena- not to mention Siena is not spending 20 million on new BB facility to solely sign under the radar recruits

Tony great post. very interesting. What site can I go on to look up some MAAC players. interested in QPACS frontcourt players and how they wound up in NEC. I would imagine any MAAC team would love to have Drame, Azotam and Hearst. I agree the rankings are for the most part accurate and tell you where a player stands. I think I posted this earlier but heard Brad Winton from JUCO recruiting and he said a player is what his offers are. very few fall between the cracks which I agree with

Breeden (83), Brookins (90), Burdine (87), Silas (88), and Gomis (84) were all well ahead of them. They were well ahead of Poole as well who was only an 80. Hell Hopper was a 79. A lot of these ratings are crap but yes, in the overall picture you are more likely to be successful the higher rated you are. Doesn't mean there aren't a ton of highly rated guys that stink and lowly rated guys that turn into stars.

Amazing Hopper ranked just as high as the 3 QPAC players that might be all MAAC this year.
