There hasn't been free press for a long time... if ever. Hearst bought up most of the outlets and other special interests have a few of their own. If a story has political tones you can damn well bet you're getting the slant the owners intend for you to get.

Not defending anyone. I commented on your "free press" mention. And if you're so concerned about government intervention/control over the press why aren't you just as if not more so concerned about the power/influence/control that private entities wield behind the scenes using press outlets they own

You are not concerned about government intervention? You supposedly have no position, but you always defer to the government and your implicit trust in it and always expressly villianize corporations. The current administration has censored citizens through IRS harassment, using the bully pulpit, eg.Fox News, and now through the FCC. How can you not be concerned about this? I think the only people that may be in favor of this are people that are in control within our government.

No. What I do is point out the opposite side when you go on one of your intrusive government tirades. People cant police themselves. Greed is simply too powerful an emotion

But the key difference is this: I do wonder if our founding fathers envisioned the press being owned and used to influence public opinion often manipulating public opinion against what is actually in their best interest

What we do know is that they were very clear: No government involvement.

What we do know is that they were very clear: No government involvement. Hey im all for it but dont be surprised as our society declines poor people start hunting rich folks. Better start fattening the bank roles ...you're gonna have to start funding your own private armies for protection. Before you know it we're gonna be third world. I can understand how people can say "I would like it if their were less government involvement". I cant understand the hard and fast "their should be no government involvement". People simply cant restrain themselves. You get the old... "there's no law against it". Then a law or regulation is created because of all the damage and everbody cries foul and too much government. The corporate world is responsible for most of the rules and regulations they now face.... because.... oh look at that... they couldnt police themselves
