I agree 100%. That's why I said we have to do what we can to get more manufacturing jobs somehow, like the VW auto plant, thus how we got going on this thread. We have to get more investing here, somehow. Companies are not bringing their money in due to taxes, not a liberal talking point, I know. Also, I know tariffs are controversial, but what can we do to get other countries to market our goods. Can we market U.S. quality? We also need to get creative with our educational system for those kids for whom college is not an option for some reason. Better technical or trade programs. But yes, we are seeing the technology advancements come back to hurt the less educated. I think we are in agreement. How do you compete with third world essentially slave labor for manufacturing. You don't Not with a fatalist attitude. Even foreign automakers are making cars here. If they can do it, it can be expanded. American quality. Let them make the cheap shit somewhere else. But again - effective leadership. Right now we don't have a lot of it.

Not easy, but with good leadership and a coalition of govt, business, workers, and yes, maybe even unions, we should be able to do it. Made me think of this. Humorous and with a little Siena connection.

Sounds corny, but if we had leadership that provides direction and a goal, I don't see why it couldn't be done. Think the effort involved in WWII, moon landing. Lofty goals but worth it for our children, instead of the huge debt we're leaving them. Am I too idealistic?

With some political courage (leadership again) we could do this again in most anything. But we have to make the commitment.

I'm saying robotics etc requires some technical skill and most third world countries aren't there yet. Cars also cost a lot to import between shipping etc. To me cars are one manufacturing animal. Smaller items like clothing etc are a completely different story

A perfect example of unions overextending what they should really be doing. And this is in our schools. tinyurl.com/p8otum2

We dont know the specifics of this issue and its a stretch to say a Union is overreaching in this situation. The article isnt exactly clear as im sure the unions told them to see legal counsel at which time you can damn well bet the lawyers told them not to cooperate

Instead let's get lawyers involved - probably endorsed by the union. This is not a singular occurrence of this type. online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303393804579311142041815148
