Don't think it hasn't made Wright better either...two good guards head to head daily great observation. We know Jimmy has a better handle on the situation than any of us, obviously. We know he is going to try to recruit the highest level athlete possible for the team. If that happens to be Taplin or that caliber of quality player who can fill a PG need, it's a win. If he goes a different direction because of circumstances or a high level player he can't pass up and it isn't a 1/2, Cole is our ace in the hole. This kid is going to be the real deal right along with Wright, if he lives up to just half the info we've heard 3rd person from players and insiders. Trust in Jimmy! This guy understands talent, I really believe this.

Cole put up 25 @ USC and followed it up with 15 @texas in his first two games as a Freshman at Coppin State...He will be our best newcomer regardless of who else is brought in.

Cole should be the needed second consistent scorer besides Poole next season. It's going to make a world of difference in the team's offense. The only problem is figuring out which current starter goes to the bench to make room for him next season.

Cole doesn’t always play the PG- in fact it rotates through several players- when Cole runs the point offense bogs down – he basically looks for his own shot. Patrick has to stay under control, as a freshmen he had 65 assists and 95 turnovers hardly point guard numbers. What Patrick does give us is a player than can pretty much get his shot off any time he wants. We don’t have anybody good on team right now at creating their own shot. Patrick will immediately go into playing group — he will fight it out with White for starter at 2. with Poole at 3- either Long or Bisping will go to bench depending if Jimmy wants to go big( start Silas and Bisping) or go small Start Silas or Bisping with Long at 4—and of course who knows how much Wolfe ( who has biggest upside on team improves)
Actually should make us much faster- as we will get less of Brett at 4(where he is too slow) less of Long at 3 ( where he is too slow) and shore up a weak spot for us at the 2. I get both sides of the coin in recruiting a PG—still stand by Paige was not end of recruiting – that would make no sense from a recruiting standpoint at all.. so it should be fun to see who else is coming—just bring in the talent baby!!

I believe Ray Jerome is in the class of 2015 every team needs two pg and I believe JP knows that and he will get it done.

Wright Poole Cole Long Silas As of now Bisping is playing much better than Long. At the rate Long fouls I'd have him coming off the bench. Between Longs foul issues, his inability or struggles with man D and the fact that at times I don't even notice he's on the floor/kind of disappears makes me lean toward Brett. Long has to up his motor and control fouling, he's still a freshman I have confidence that he'll get much better especially if he's played in the 4 slot where he can utilize his ability to score from the inside.

Defensively it isn't close. Long is far more capable and generally gets a tougher assignment. Bisping is enjoying being the fifth option every time he's on the floor. Long is always second option behind Poole and if Poole is out, the offense often tries to run through long. I like the effort bisping is bringing but comparing the two isn't fair to long and the attention he draws from opponents... As a freshman

Situation: Wright unavailable for 2014-15 season. Who fills in? Two possible options:
Pat Cole Pros: lead his HS team to State Championship, 1 yr of D1 experience performing at All-Rookie level, 1+ yrs under Patsos running the flex offense, & defending against it, Patsos knows his strengths & weaknesses and how to coach him, 6-5, and 3yrs removed from HS. Con: Shoot first combo guard, not pure PG. Turnovers were as issue in 1st D1 year.
Sterling Taplin Pros: Solid AAU club performance as combo guard lead to high scout ranking and solid reviews. Cons: No D1 experience, no Patsos experience, doesn't know flex offense, 3" shorter, 2 yrs younger, hasn't adjusted to college life yet, shoot first combo guard, not pure PG.
I'll take my chances with Pat in the unlikely event we lose Wright for 2014-15. I'd then recruit the best pure PG for either 2015 or ideally 2016 I could get my hands on.
I'd much rather land 6-4 to 6-7 sniper and lock down defender for 2014. But that's just me.

Cole playing the PG weakens us at the 2 and 3. We need our players in the best position to make them effective and successful
