I interrupt the political debate to be "that guy" only because it is multiplying and driving me crazy.
Compliment--- with an "I", should be used when you want to say something nice about a player.
Complement, with an "e", should be used to describe a player who adds a role that enhances the qualities of another player.
Examples: Saints fan complimented Evan Hymes on his quickness.
Example: saints fan remarked that Evan Hymes' quickness is complementary to the team and helps them win games.
Because we are rarely saying nice things these days, 95% of the time the word "complementary" is the appropriate choice.
