It's insane! The banquets are held to give recognition at the END of the season, END means NO MORE GAMES AT ALL, DONE, FINI; Capice? It's not just a fund raiser. The men's fete historically has run late on its own - adding in the women (although there isn't much good that can drag out their portion of the program) and Jimmy's ramblings, will make the evening even longer at a time when both teams will be in prep mode for the tourney - I would think the coaches would want them on campus and tucked away in their sleep sacks, not partying in Troy. Shouldn't the staffs be back in their offices planning the next day's practice schemes, not partying in Troy. Insanity!
Let's say we continue to move up in the standings or have a surprising run in the tournament and get to play another game or two (unlikely maybe but not impossible) - we still have NINE games left and could split with the Jaspers, the Griffs and Q (have to win tonight). This early scheduling seems to be saying there will be a short tournament run. Is that the message we want the team to have? Insanity!
Will we be honoring our best players as in the past but before they play as many as three or four more games? That's a great table setter (pun intended) going into the MAAC tourney. Jimmy has already been quoted as being upset with players' supposed reaction to favorable press clippings. How will he handle his own kids getting publicly recognized honors from HIM and HIS STAFF before the most important game of the season - game one of the tournament? How will the kids that don't get recognition handle it (well I'm sure but it still gives me pause!)? Will PPC pull our G/F if he isn't MVP? Insanity!
Suppose we won the tournament and then got a PIG win and a good showing (I didn't say win) after that (not likely I know, but again, not impossible) - do we then wait until March or April 2015 to recognize that accomplishment? Insanity!
If it's all about money I'll gladly send them $75 to NOT do this and then another $75 to go to a true YEAR END BANQUET FOR THE MEN ONLY! If someone screwed up by not locking in dates early and the Hilton Garden Inn isn't available, pick another venue! HJ would gladly squeeze us into his "banquet facility", IMO!

Bad, bad, bad...Should go in the Siena Basketball Hall of Bad Decisions, like "We love our Saints", the tarps, and not cutting a bad coach when he was obviously failing.

I have never attended the women's banquet so I have to ask how well attended are they? If attendance has dropped maybe the joint banquet is the only viable option. Just a guess on my part, can someone that actually knows shed some light on it.
I agree that the premature "end of year" banquet is the wrong way to go for the many reasons stated, adding the women, while not ideal for either program, is not a deal breaker for me. Has anyone gotten the administration's rationale for the move?

I'm sure those of you that sent John a letter got the same response I did..which was basically the change was ran by the Saints alive advisory committee and was enthusiastically endorsed. They think the changes are terrific and great send off to both the men's and women's team to MAAC tournament..good luck to them

I think John D'Arg has to look as his "advisory committee", because it's not making sense. I wonder if this is the same group that "paid tribute" last night to the '89 & '94 teams, where THREE players showed up! You just can't decide these things on a whim and expect them to look like the "top tier" program we aspire to be. Another thing (thanks to Hoopsfan 68): the dimming of the arena lights for Siena player intros & NO SPOTLIGHT ON THE PLAYER WHEN HE'S BEING ANNOUNCED? Amateur hour...
