Well MAAC was 22nd in attendance last year with avg of 2,156 a game of course if you take Siena out of equation MAAC would drop down to 1,700 fans a game-- good for about 27th thru 29th most years-- solid low major numbers. The MAAC tournament drew 9,713 in 5 sessions for MAAC tournament for avg of 1,943 a game, remember when MAAC would get more than 10k for single Siena game? At any rate those MAAC tournament numbers is why no reputable arena would touch the MAAC tournament with a pole. And why the MAAC tournament will go to highest seed once Siena leaves- the remaining low major MAAC programs cannot support a all in one tournament once Siena leaves- quite honestly they never could - the MAAC basically sucked off Siena and Siena fans like a leech all these years and had balls to bitch about MAAC tournament in Albany

Springfield was an absolute disaster for the MAAC. I still contend that the MAAC would draw more in Albany even if Siena left. Of course that sort of disagreement with a moderator is likely to get this thread locked.

That's two major money blunders by Siena and this league that I could have prevented if showed ;D Mitch for Siena and I said Springfield would be an absolute failure. The days of experimenting to find a better solution for the tournament should be OVER. As long as Siena is in the league there is no better solution MAAC boards clowns now will pimp Foxwoods or some other failure-in-waiting

I honestly didn't think Fairfield was too bad or buffalo. The old model seemed to work-- alternate between one or two sites with half of the years at Albany. The problem with holding the tournament at Albany if it was neutral is the price is too high. There have been games between two non conference d1 teams that hardly drew at all -- even though I would go I don't think many would.

I think there's a misconception between MAAC Tournament attendance and the MAAC getting paid by the bidding venue.
If I understand it correctly the bidding/winning venue pays the MAAC a guaranteed amount, regardless of the money (paid attendance, etc .) it makes in ticket, parking, concession, etc. sales.
Therefore, the MAAC didn't loose any money, but the venue did. The MA local development authority (or what ever it's called) had to fund hundreds of thousands of dollars the past two years for lost revenue by the MA Mutual Ctr and any other expenses by the local community (law enforcement OT etc.) for running the tournament.
While I agree it doesn't look good on televised games (the lack if attendance) the MAAC made their money & ran. I don't think the MAAC shares in ticket sales unless it gets a % only after a certain break even point is reached. So I don't know if it was possible for the MAAC to make more than the guaranteed total anyway.
Tony has a point, that when Siena leaves, I doubt any venue will guarantee the money that the MA Ctr or TUC could thereby forcing it to the higher seed school or rotating among the schools like the AE.

MAAC boards clowns now will pimp Foxwoods or some other failure-in-waiting Most of the ass clowns on MAAC board dont have a clue-- No arena will touch the MAAC tournament with a 10 foot pole after Siena leaves. The "experiment " at Springfield assured that. And while indianSaint is correct the MAAC didn't lose money on it Springfield surely did and the MAAC showed its true hand for drawing abilty -- not that I really care- like I said the MAAC has basically leached off Siena and Siena fans the last 25 years -- and not that I have a problem with that--I do however have a problem with the MAAC ass clowns and their pompous attitude as far as I'm concerned they will get what they deserve once Siena leaves-- can you say NEC plus..LOL

Die hard fans for sure but who can blame them for being jealous of Siena. Most fans, most NCAA tournament wins, most postseason appearances, best facilities, most revenue, most robust media coverage, most talked about program for conference upgrade in short the cream of the MAAC.

No question A lot of Siena penis envy out there-- and of course Siena's bad coaching choices fed thier obsession-- cause Lord knows when Siena goes bad..they go bad

Not because it 'd be good for the MAAC but rather so U could gamble between games. In hind sight, I'm glad they didn't choose Foxwoods mainly since it would have cost me more money (since I always loose at gambling).

If Siena had a good team, Springfield would have fared much better. It may even have been deemed a success. Since Siena was horrible, the fans didn't travel. I wonder what the thoughts would be if the Springfield experiment was during the Fran years? I've always felt the league was foolish to leave Albany but I do understand the other coaches being pissed about the home court advantage for Siena - even though we haven't always capitalized on it.

MAAC Coaches and Presidents had to "buck up and bow their necks" I'm tired of hearing that bullshit from low budget and no attendance MAAC teams, coaches and fans ..too bad if they dont like tournament in Albany-- what about the CAA having tournament in Richmond all those years with VCU and Richmond in conference? Big east played in new york for years with St Johns, the southern conference playing its championship close to Davidson etc..in short its not usually for conference tournament to be in same city or very close to a conferences best drawing team- tired of apologizing for MAAC tournament in Albany- its only place it ever drew decent numbers-either have it there or home of highest seed--in which case still would have got the tournament several times-- its just mainly whining by MAAC coaches, presidents and fans -
