Since this is a basketball forum, I'll point out that the article lost validity to me since the writer doesn't know there were 2 coaches between Doc Sauers and Will Brown. He makes it sound like the Hicks and Beeten regimes never existed.

Clearly this area thirsts for non-BCS football! In all seriousness good luck to UA football, let's see them be a premiere program. What do they draw on average for Home Games now? I know the opening of Bob Ford field was a sellout, but they were also terrible and drew poorly therafter. What were the final attendence figures?

I'll dig up the final attandance figures but both homecoming and opening game was over capacity...I believe the average attendance was close to 8k but I'll verify.

Albany football program will only get better. . . hopefully teams they play will bring their fans into the area to boost the local economy since football is more of a "tailgating experience" for locals . . . Siena & other TUC events benefits downtown Albany's bars ands restaurants . . . all-in-all have good local college programs are good for an area . . . being that Siena doesn't have football we should adopt "Albany" in the fall

Based on the numbers on the UAlbany site, average attendance was just under 6,900.

Based on the numbers on the UAlbany site, average attendance was just under 6,900. Those are official numbers...the opening game and home coming reported capacity of 8k...anyone who was there at both events knows the numbers were significantly higher this being an outdoor venue. They allowed significantly more on the berm etc.

Most places actually over report to boost their numbers, if anything. There is no way the average was 8,000 as you claim. But 7k is still impressive.

I can live with official numbers even if the reality was higher. In fact you followed Mark and Santillo on twitter during the opening game or home coming both reported people being turned away as well as looked like much higher capacity then max numbers.

So some people crashed and sat on the berm. That would have to be over 2,500 for each of the 2 games you mentioned to drive the attendance to 8K. With the new coach and a better team, they will probably pass 8k next year.

A successful football program will be huge for the whole UAlbany athletic department.

Click clack is delusional and a dreamer.. but hey I wish UA football well..personally I think the Danes football team will be very successful-- but its going to take some time.. I mean these UA toucholes give Siena fans a hard time-- fricking UA didnt win a single game in CAA this year and the touchole fans are talking about national championship and 20K-- how about UA posts a winning season first

Our area's top sports franchise is the Saratoga Race Course.
But if the UAlbany football team ever moves up to the MAC and outdraws Siena basketball, that's not really a threat. Stadium sports are supposed to outdraw arena sports.
