@marksingelais: Siena's Jimmy Patsos: "That game against Memphis is important because nobody thinks we're going to win, but I think we have a chance to win" @marksingelais: "I don't think we would have won the Cornell game if there wasn't a bus with 45 Siena fans there.'' - Siena coach Jimmy Patsos. #sienasaints @andrewsantillo: "We'll play anybody, any time, any where." Siena's Jimmy Patsos on strong Old Spice field @andrewsantillo: Patsos said freshman Javion Ogunyemi will likely travel to Orlando, but probably won't play at Old Spice Classic @andrewsantillo: the last Siena player to win @maacsports rookie of the week was Evan Hymes (@evanhymes5) on Feb. 20, 2012 t.co/puenkLsIvm

I hope Patsos is just trying to throw off scouting reports by saying JO won't play in Orlando. If it's true, they are going to have problems inside. But I don't think it's true though. If there was no chance of him playing, he wouldn't be traveling there with the team, just as he didn't against Cornell.

He played well in games where he was guarding bigger guys (Bonn and Purdue.)

It's great to have a head coach with confidence and some gusto. He is calculated in what he says most of the time but he's not a robot either. Teams tend to take on the personality of their head coach and I think Siena is taking on Jimmy's quickly!
Hopefully JO will play (even if it's only on Sunday) but it's a long season we need him for the rest of the season 100%.

I hope JO can give some quality minutes this weekend as well. If he does not play I would imagine it is because of the opportunity to bond with his team over the holiday, and can still get treatment from Hammer while on the trip.

@andrewsantillo: Rich Audu (ankle) could play on Sunday -- the earliest Javion Ogunyemi (ankle) could play is Sunday but that is doubtful

Going to Cornell and going to Orlando are not the same. You can schedule Cornell anytime, going to the Old Spice is a once in a four year career opportunity. As noted above there are also the bonding and continued treatment factor to be considered. I would like to see him be able to compete against the quality competition in Orlando, but having him healthy for MAAC play is much more important.

@andrewsantillo: the last Siena player to win @maacsports rookie of the week was Evan Hymes (@evanhymes5) on Feb. 20, 2012 t.co/puenkLsIvmSiena won 5 of the 16 that year. Hymes 4 (most in league) and Poole 1. Pretty impressive considering the star studded class. Green, Mason, Lewis, Andujar.... I think Wright and Long have a few more in them.

Wright will run away with this award in my opinion. . His numbers are crazy esp for a freshman. ..has a freshman pg ever had these type of numbers in the MAAC?

Recently the best I can think of were Scott Machado (9.3 PPG, 4.8 APG, 3.4 RPG) and Ronald Moore (7.4 PPG, 4.9 APG, 3.5 RPG). Both went on to lead the entire nation in assists so pretty good company to be in.

Jared Jordan was 6.8/4.0/3.8 his freshman year and also went on to lead the nation in assists.

It's not too hard to imagine him eclipsing the 7 apg mark like those guys at some point on a team with more efficient scoring depth around him.
Typically, you wouldn't even consider discussing such a thing with a kid 6 games into his first season but he has such an impressive track record from highschool already that backs up his play to date...
You don't even worry about him with the ball. Kind of like Moore, you just say here you go. For him, it's just about rounding out the rest of his offensive game.

Quinny has a kid that has already won the award- a 5"10 PG named Kasim Chandler avg 12ppg.. saw him Vs Albany he is a really good looking player he is a better scorer than Wright- but not as good a pure point. Lavon will be in this race also

At 1.5 steals per game, Wright isn't quite stealing at the 2 per game I suspected he could. However, people need to realize we have played 6 ball control teams so far. They all have positive assist ratios on the season except Albany and UVM ...barely. LaSalle, Bonnies, Purdue and even Cornell. These teams just don't turn it over.
I think that if we had played UVM and Albany now instead of the 1st two games we most likely win them.
But anyway, there are only 2 teams in the MAAC right now with positive assist ratios and one of them is Siena. Quinny and a few other teams are close but generally, that's an advantage Saints should have once MAAC play starts that they haven't necessarily had yet.
I think Wright will start stealing the ball even more and probably start scoring even more. If Hymes and Oliver and co. start to heat up from three, this team could go on a serious winning streak at some point.
