The Saints have been outscored by 9 points in the final 5 minutes and a total of 34 points in the second half this season. In contrast, they have only been outscored 27 points when considering the whole game. Hopefully this is just a symptom of inexperience, although I think some of it has to do with the fouling as well.
Of course, for all we know it could be the extra energy spent with all the subs. I'm sure GoSiena or KK will come up with a stat for this, but with about a zillion subs, think of all the wind sprints coming in and out, the constant cooling down and warming up, the verbal tongue lashes, and the butt taps. Think about it, 50 subs X 5 taps per sub what's that, 250 total butt slaps per game? Its a wonder they can stand up by the last 5 minutes!
To be serious, though, it seems like the last game the melt down came a little later than the other two. I am taking this as a positive sign that the team is starting to become a little tougher down the stretch. Poole said it best, LaSalle was tougher than Siena in the last 5 minutes. Long had similar comments and LaSalle had this to say:
"Giannini attributed his team's late defensive heroics to its experience in close games.
"We battled through it," Giannini said. "We really willed ourselves in that last six or seven minutes, and we had great leadership both on and off the court."
When the Saints learn how to do this, they could win a lot of games.

Yeah if these games are in January I bet Siena wins at least two out of three. The wins are going to come with the experience in crunch time. Lavon Long said as much in regards to getting the experience. It's invaluable. It's a cliché but by late January/early Feb they won't be freshmen anymore with the minutes they are playing. I am very excited about the future...we just need to get the zero out of the loss column the team will relax once they've got the first win. Once you learn to win - they will start adding up as the season goes on hopefully.

Completely off-topic, save for the fact that Gorvy's butt tap diatribe reminded me of this funny (and NSFW) skit:
The La Salle game was, in my opinion, more promising than discouraging. I thought they'd escape with a W as the game went on, but regardless of the outcome their play was much more inspired than the first two games.
