better question, why red-shirt someone who will never play? or is that to save Marcus a year when he graduates so he can play elsewhere his 5th year?

No surprise on Cole.. it's too bad for Pat. I look forward to him playing in 2014-15 and him having a great three years at Siena. Hopper redshirting doesn't make sense unless it is so he can play D2 for a year after he graduates.
Looks like Wolfe will be playing this year which will make many happy. I just hope he can give us meaningful minutes and we don't regret burning the year at the end of his career when his body might be more D1 ready. He should be a very talented piece to the puzzle rebuilding the program.

White hurt and Cole ineligible certainly puts a dampener at the two

Too bad for Cole, but not completely surprising. It would have been fantastic for him to get the waiver because:
A. He fills a need B. He has already established that he can score at the D1 level (albeit at a high usage rate) C. It would have helped balance the classes to have him as a Sophomore this year instead of next D. I think he REALLY wants to get out there and play.
I could see the coaching staff saying to Hopper that he wasn't in consideration for the player pool, and that it would be in his best interest to redshirt to save eligibility for a next step. This may end up opening a scholarship for 2014-15 sooner than expected. I heard a short podcast interview with Rob Poole and he said "we have no seniors and three juniors" when Hopper is the 4th Jr, and I thought it was a LITTLE odd to discount a scholarship player. Perhaps he already knew this was in the works.

If Hopper redshirts, he then has 2 years at his next school

If Hopper redshirts, he then has 2 years at his next school and if he goes lower than D1 (which quite possibly is a bettef fit for him)..........he does not have to sit a year and can play right away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If Hopper redshirts, he then has 2 years at his next school I believe he will only have 2 years remaining if he goes D-2 or lower. You only have 5 years to complete 4. If he transfers to another D-1 school he still has to sit a year at the school he transfers to. That was the reason Mason stayed at Niagara because he already had a redshirt year and he would have lost a year of eligibility if he transferred.

Coachspeak. The kid's a gonner. No one redshirts upperclassmen unless they're hurt.

and by the way - there is no chnace a D1 school takes him when he can't get off our bench. This is to set him up for 2 years at a lower level.
