Once again, our sub-par facility has been denied an NCAA hosting bid. Syracuse and Buffalo were given the green light.
Can someone please expalin to me how it takes a year to fix the stairs by the parking lot??? What a joke that place is.

Sad news. I agree, the facilities, for a relatively new arena, are in need of repair. Plus, the last time the NCAAs were here, despite the sold out crowd the committee said they would not return until there was a convention center. I thought this might have been a political ploy, but alas 10 years later and the convention center is still "in the works". Too bad.

The arena is not relatively new. I believe it is 22 or 23 years old. It's a relic - and it had some substantial upgrades within the last 2 years. The arena in Providence underwent a complete makeover and it looks great - but Albany County isn't going to foot that bill.

The arena is old enough to order its own overpriced beer. In two more years and a couple months, it will be able to rent its own car from downstairs.

Wow time flies. Does anyone have an article with the reasons for NCAA's decision?

Wow time flies. Does anyone have an article with the reasons for NCAA's decision? If the NCAA team parked in the "Garage" they would have puked at the deplorable condition it is in. The stairway from the mezz level to the next lowest level is still closed - I mean they've only had a year to fix it! A sad story but one repeated over and over in Smallbany! Since traffic control going out of the garage is non-existent for our "huge" crowds, maybe the TUC is trying to disuade patrons from parking there.

Wow time flies. Does anyone have an article with the reasons for NCAA's decision? One of the major reasons, Belber said, the arena did not get the bid was the lack of more hotel rooms available within walking distance to Times Union Center. Michelle Vennard, the President and CEO of the the Albany County Convention and Visitors Bureau, said there are approximately 650 rooms in the four downtown hotels. She also said the Bureau had blocked over 1,100 rooms for the tournament, had the NCAA decided to come here. However, three of the hotels would have been in the Wolf Road area in Colonie, and the NCAA prefers to have the teams and fans stay closer to the arena. Belber also said the arena may have lost out because the NCAA was not confident the TU Center could have handled the media crush that comes with the tournament. He also said he is not giving up. The next time the NCAA takes bids for the tournament, there will be one put in from Albany. blog.timesunion.com/collegesports/no-ncaa-bid-for-albany-in-2014-or-2015/14218/

Glad Sherman on ch. 6 blew him up for that embarrassment.
