Love the philosophy that you see most successful coaches employ and was summed up wonderfully in that RG3 commercial about where greatness is made: on the practice field in the weight room and on the road before game day. Only then can you reasonably hope to achieve greatness.

“Coach always says, ‘you have to run to run’ and we’re not really in good shape right now,” Poole said.
Okay, somebody help me out with this. They are getting an education worth over $200,000 for free, why haven't they been running their @$$&$ off all summer? Remember the Hewitt 6 a.m. 5 mile runs? Hopefully it was just a dumb comment from a 19 year old kid, but I am concerned that a leader of the team is stating they aren't in shape yet. Before the season is when you do all the running, during the season you have to draw from all the work you did leading up to the season; you get in shape before the season, and tend to get worn down during.

A Patsos practice is very intense and there is a lot of running in everything you do none stop...that translates well in the games...The return players did not know what to expect ....all of the recruits except JO and Cole already knew...Etherly told me the way they practice the games are easier and the running in the games is easy for them..while the opponent is not used to the pace...My point is that Poole and his teammates are in better shape than he realizes. ..it will show in the games I believe

Before the season is when you do all the running, during the season you have to draw from all the work you did leading up to the season; you get in shape before the season, and tend to get worn down during. I am not going to take much stock in this article, or anyone's comments about it at this point. It's all pre-season hype at this point as far as I am concerned. -There are too many counterpoints starting with a team that won 6 games last year with no discipline and not much conditioning imparted upon them (not going to list all the other obvious issues, ad nauseam). I think we all must remember that the new staff had a lot of issues to deal with and it takes time to get buy in (even from 18-22 year olds) that the new sheriff in town had a totally different set of expectations, hopefully on the journey to producing far different results. -There are two sides to believing the $200K education is free. (This is from a parent that wrote huge checks every semester for the kid who is all brains and style but had no interest in any D-1 level sport). Any D-1 athlete can tell you the intangibles they give up to be a team member. Yes they do get many benefits that 'non athletic regular persons' don't get, but they hardly have a normal college social experience and are often isolated from their classmates and quite frankly in many cases the entire rest of the campus. - Some work camps and jobs during the summer months (and I don't mean at Saratoga Race Course only) because they can't possibly hold down any part time money earning opportunity any other time. And yes, it could have been a 'ill advised comment' in the moment of the interview ( you don't have to use the word dumb) ......but it could also be Jimmy's way of making Will Brown think they aren't ready

Couldn't agree more with GB's post (above - no need to quote it)! No coach, at whatever level, is going to tell his team they are conditioned "enough" - from their perspective (and it's the right one) the team can't run enough and can always work harder. They run and run and then when they are done they run again - it's high tempo from the time they take the practice court - only exception is the stretching period where they stay in one place for a few minutes! They even run during free throw drills - using four hoops they break into four groups of four (nice thing about the number 16) and then shoot at least 5 FT's at each hoop - running to the next station when they finish at one. Team scores are kept and the losing team gets the prize - another suicide!!! And yes, they were running their @$$&$ off all summer - they took trips up and down Spring Street running the same route Paul's teams did - hope this team has the same on court experience as Paul's teams. We fans aren't accustomed to the pace that we will see beginning tonight - I would venture some in the cheap seats will get tired watching (unless they are used to attending big time tennis matches).

Patsos' intense practices could be compared to Hewitt's conditioning/practices. I remember Hewitt's players saying the same thing: "that the games were easier than practices". The last five minutes of those games is when the opposing team wore down (sort of how Siena wore down in the last 5-10 mins of games the past three years). Expecting a more intense effort in games this year.
