Tony - you may be spot on. It does appear that the president has devoted significantly more resources for this coach than we have previously. It also appears that as the saying goes "ask and yee shall receive". That said, I have zero visibility into any of the financials behind the scenes so this is just supposition. I've heard conflicting reports on the fiscal health of the school. I've heard that the endowment is treated like a sacred cow and I've also heard we're spending it down like mad. I have no idea what the truth is but I think the new president sees the hoop program minimally as a loss leader if not a straight up asset. I'm really hoping that GMac can right the ship because I think this is the last try. On a related note, the new MAAC commissioner mentioned at the presser yesterday that the MAAC was a basketball first (paraphrasing) conference. That is THE FIRST TIME I've heard that in any official capacity. The new guy may yet turn this league around. IMO that was a key differentiator between the MAAC and the A10. They make no bones about being a hoop league. Hockey, baseball, LAX, are fine but that's not what makes a the league. Hopefully all the MAAC schools are upping their game...or moving down. I think many schools may be in a financial pickle. I think Siefert recognizes the importance of a high profile basketball program not only in the community but its impact on the number of applications the school receives and the amount of alumni donations that come in. Keeping the seats filled in the arena helps puts bodies in the seats in the classroom and at alumni events. Both make money for the school. The old business phrase rings true here. You have to spend money to make money. Keeping enrollment up and keeping the money rolling in is the number one job of a college president. If that happens the rest (raising the caliber of student body, instilling community involvement and maintaining the Franciscan tradition) will take care of itself. All those impacts were felt in the Fran era and it can be repeated if the resources are provided.

Big difference Coach Carm took over for Turkey Board coach who bolted after one year and took a team who had a winning record and a ton of talent. I believe MTS could have won the Maac that season. COVID was the only thing that prevented a Maac championship. We know the rest of the story. It's a great day to be an Orange Saint. I have no aversion to Syracuse, but adding Orange to the Saints is an affront to my Irish heritage. ;-) Green/White/Orange Irish flag.

I wonder if Gerry reaches out to Sean Durugordon, who said he's open to returning. I think he should. Anyone who goes 16 for 16 from the free throw line in one game is a good player in my book.

He is not a winning player that makes other players better. He is a volume shooter and the complete opposite of a playmaker. He had 9 assists in 14 games and turned the ball over 40 times. Hard pass. McNamara knows he has to find a point guard that can lead, some shooters, a bunch of athletic wings and a big or 2 that play with good IQ, can rebound/defend and can make FTs.

Here's the thing - we all as fans have opinions as to who Coach Mac should reach out to. At the press conference, he said he knows what type of players he wants to fit on his roster, and he looks for toughness first. He has been involved in a lot of success, and I say, let him get to work, trust him, and support Siena. If he takes SD or doesn't think SD fits the system he wants, no matter how good a player or bad a player is, he knows the pieces he is looking for. We all had a lot of questions about some of the things Coach Carm was doing as Siena's coach. I think there is new sheriff in town, and I think the next ride we are all going on is going to be a good one!! Go Saints!!!!

Durugordon can certainly score the ball. Id be okay with him taking Eleys freshman spot as "instant offense" off the bench in a 6th man role. IF he'd accept that, and a Hyundai instead of his Charger, I'd take him back.

Zero interest in bringing him back. He’s a losing player.

Who is on deck for PG? Having "grown up" in the Biz / Bennerman era, I feel that's the single most important position on the floor. From my perspective that's (part of) why Carm's team struggled this year. A great PG can take a team to the next level.

I wonder how difficult it is to shift recruiting tiers when you go from HM assistant to MM Head Coach. I cant imagine Gerry was scouting players that Siena could get so wonder how much more work it is to find players.

A lot of those kids portal for many reasons, relationships and the promise of being the man in a program on the way up can be attractive. I think the bigger problem will be keeping stars in year 2 and beyond.

Coach GMAC has always been a winner. As a player and as a coach. Confident he will be a winner as a HC. Based on what I heard and saw yesterday in the presser and in related interviews, I can already see he is a major upgrade over his predecessor. I have full trust that he will get the job done and return Siena to a winning program and bring in the right players and coaches for his system. The future looks bright for the Saints.
