If true, it’s a bummer for Gio leaving, could have learned a lot from him.

www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/2024/03/report-gerry-mcnamara-has-accepted-the-siena-mens-basketball-head-coaching-job.html?outputType=amp“I want to congratulate Gerry McNamara on his hiring as the men’s basketball coach at Siena College,” said Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack. “There are very few individuals who have contributed to our men’s basketball program and all of Orange Nation as dramatically as Gerry has. He displayed an unmatched competitive desire as a student-athlete at Syracuse and, for the past 15 years he has shared his passion for and knowledge of the game with our student-athletes as a coach. I, along with all my colleagues in Syracuse athletics, wish Gerry, Katie and their family the best as they embark on this new opportunity.”

I honestly don't see why you guys believe Efejuru is a winning player - no basketball IQ, poor hands, can't make FTs, is perpetually lost on defense and his range is a dunk. His game does not translate as part of a top MAAC team.

I don’t disagree, Gio IMO would have needed to work on lots of skills this off season but would have liked to see what this potential assistant if he comes to Siena could have helped Gio become.

The link the other fan posted of him listed on Syracuse’s website I though said he worked with Syracuse’s Centers/bigs??? Edited: went back to verify. Griffin works primarily with the centers at Syracuse. He is also involved in recruiting and opponent scouting for the Orange. I had to look up his playing days, he was a shooting guard/small forward

If Griffin doesn’t get the AHC title at Cuse I could see him being the top assistant at Siena. Went to Paul Robeson in Brooklyn which is the same High School as Dwayne Archbold- I believe they were a year apart.

I don't. Waste of time. Still need Durugordon to hit the bricks. Need all of the stink gone - I do hope Gerry is able to keep Ojo and any of the freshman. I'd be more than happy to see a kid like Max return and let the staff work with him - if he played 800 minutes this year, he would have been in the discussion for MAAC DPoY.

I really like Ojo’s potential and motor!!! I also like Michael E (from Canada) he’s a big tough guard. Yes, liked Max’s potential. He’s a standard project big man for the MAAC but liked what I saw.

I'm not a fan of Durugordon's game but would be on board if Gerry gave him an ultimatum that if he wants to comeback he needs to play team ball or he'll be riding the bench. It would also help quite a bit if there was a lot more talent around him where he didn't feel like he needs to do everything (although he seemed to have no interest in getting help from Eley). There is undeniable talent there but if he wants to play the me first style he played last year then I would rather he do it elsewhere.

I’m hoping Ojo and Michael E stick around. Also think Coyle could be a useful role player with better, more consistent pg play.

Hopefully Siena was able to negotiate a big buyout if he leaves in the first three years and that Gerry was able to negotiate better salaries for assistants and the ability to not renew scholarships if a player does not live up to expectations. Hopefully Siena was able to negotiate a reasonable buyout if he's a colossal failure. I certainly don't want that to be the case but our track record isn't great. If we are, indeed, paying GMac a ton of money won't be buying him out if he doesn't live up to the hype. Getting a coach is an investment in the program and the school but we shouldn't be counting on the P5 buyout. Id much rather have a buyout clause for another team that comes and tries to poach him away from us. $3 million sounds good.
