Don't really care who the new coach is as long as Siena makes sure they include a big buyout in the contract. Next time a coach threatens to take the Fordham job to get an extension I want Siena to be able to say "sure, go ahead and take that job and we will collect the $1 million buyout and move on". Absolutely a sitting head coach gets a 5 year contract. An assistant probably 4 years though a HM assistant like McNamara might be a 5 year deal too. No extension until you make the NCAA tournament with a WINNING team (ie not Rob Lanier’s first year)

dailyorange.com/2024/03/gerry-mcnamara-syracuse-mens-basketball/This is a good read about Gerry McNamara. Improving guard play sound good to you? Does to me. I'm ok with a transition here for an up and coming good coach with a recognizable name even if they are 3-4 years and out. Turn around the program. Then the next hire can be the next up and comer who follows the profile. I think we all wanted a successful coach that would be here for years and years that we all love and is just always incredibly successful. Well, I want a full head of hair, to be 6'1", with 6-pack abs, and retired with unlimited financial resources.

Even better than a buyout if he leaves...No buyout if he has < 10 wins on a season. I don't want to be handcuffed like we have been in the past.

$cott - I disagree. You put generous performance bonuses in the contract. If a coach isn't confident in their performance, I don't want them. There are a handful of D1 jobs open every year. It is a buyer's market (with the school being the buyer). I can be canned at work for poor performance. Why should these guys have a no lose option? BS. Again, generous performance bonuses so that success is rewarded. Failure shouldn't be an option. Maybe Carm doesn't skip a recruiting period if he knows he can't walk away with a year's salary.
I'll also note that from what I've seen, guys who are HC material are fairly egomaniacal. They have zero doubt in their ability. Their lawyer might but they don't :-)

I am sorry to see anyone lose their job, but college basketball is a results business; and the trend was going the wrong way for Carm the last three years. Given the recruiting situation with the Portal and transfer rules; we can go up or be at rock bottom again. Whoever the new coach is he will have a rabid fan base behind him. So fasten your seatbelts, here we go again!!

I like Jordan Fee the most. I think Gannon has 5 or 6 guys that could be players in the MAAC and he’s shown that he can turn things around quick.

Can we get Carm's picture removed from the site header and replace it with a big question mark?

I agree here, he also plays a fun style of basketball. Something we haven’t seen in years. If we go this route we may have competition from his alma mater now that UDM and Mike Davis parted ways.

Absolutely, I think Siena will have some competition for him. On paper I think Siena’s a better job than UDM but who knows how it’ll play out with his personal connections there.

From Announcement: "After thorough evaluation and careful consideration, we have decided to move forward in a different direction with our men's basketball program," said D'Argenio. "We appreciate the commitment that Carm has given to Siena College as its men's basketball head coach. We had some early successes but, unfortunately, we were not able to build upon them over the past year and a half. The value of Siena Basketball to the College and the Capital Region makes a change in course necessary." I guess either the thorough evaluation was done after his comments about 45 days ago when he indicated that he was pleased with the job Carm had done overall or the thorough evaluation was done by someone else.

As I have posted previously on here, IMO there were ZERO basketball reasons to retain Carm as the Saints HC. If they were able to overcome the financial challenge, than the only correct decision was to fire him. The program should always be bigger and more important than any one individual. This was the right thing to do.

I don't really care who it is - Santa Claus even works for me!!!!!!!!! :)this morning I feel new energy about being a Siena fan. I ONCE AGAIN have excitement for the program. You need to look at the program this way - what it presently had fallen to ( among the WORST 5 programs in the entire NCAA) and what it could become. I agree - a Fran type of hire would be amazing, but ANYONE is an improvement. Things are looking up, and a smile should be on the face of EVERY Siena fan!!!!!! Go Saints!!!!!!!!!!! ( I really couldn't say that, the way things were trending!!) Amen! What a beautiful day! I almost can't believe it!! I've been depressed without Siena basketball, my wife couldn't believe I wouldn't go to games. It's been a shitty winter without Siena hoops. Thank God someone had the common sense to finally pull the plug!
