Siena faces last season’s national rugby champions (for the 1st time) in next weeks Liberty Conference Finals at Fairfield’s neutral field. Brown easily shut out AIC to advance to the Conference finals. www.goffrugbyreport.com/news/brown-siena-liberty-d1-finalWin or lose, both team make the NCR playoffs so neither team’s season ends with a loss next week but a victory will hopefully receive a better matchup in the NCR. This quote from Brown’s Coach reminds me of Hunt For Red October 🙂 "We need to step it up next week when we play Siena," said LaFlamme, who will coach against an old playing adversary Jaco Visser. "I am excited to play an old friend." getyarn.io/yarn-clip/86c068cb-0367-4aa5-be70-fdd9db89971cThat would make Brown coach the Russian commander and our coach the American. 🙂

Siena still ranked 5th nationally in the NCR Coaches poll in D1 (the highest level in college rugby). www.ncr.rugby/coaches-pollTotally amazing a team could go from a club team to the highest level AND be nationally ranked in 3-4 short years!!!

Wow, what a tough defensive team #1 overall D1 ranked team has.
Brown leads Siena 15-0 at the half.
Brown 2 tries, 1 PK and 1 kick.
Brown had a man advantage due to a Siena player out due to penalty (don’t know what it’s called but like a man down in hockey).
For Siena to only give up 15 is amazing. Brown was basically at the goal line a few times, had the ball on Siena’s side most of the 1st half. Again, amazing Siena only down 15.
Hopefully, Siena’s offense comes alive but this Brown team is something to watch defensively.
Even though Siena’s the #1 seed in the Liberty Conference to #2 Brown, Brown is ranked #1 (overall in all of D1) many polls to Siena’s #’s 5 and 7 depending on the poll.
The good news is win or lose, Siena (and Brown) are both going to NCR playoffs against the other D1 conference winners/runner-ups.
Of course a victory tonight may lead to a somewhat better matchup at the next playoff round.
Go Saints!!!

Brown beats Siena 32-7.
Liberty Conference Champions.
Todays loss is only Siena’s 2nd loss in three years after elevating up from a club league. Both Siena losses occurred on Fairfield’s field. I’m officially calling that field Siena’s jinx field. 🙂
Onto the NCR playoffs 11/18.

Siena at Notre Dame College (of Ohio) in the NCR Quarter finals game Saturday at 12:00.
Siena win the national championship of the lowest division two years ago and now (two years later) are in the highest division/league (D1) on its way to hopefully another national championship.
You can’t even compare the basketball DII to DI transition and being in the ncaa tournament because Siena skipped more than two divisions in arriving at the DI rugby level.
