The author could have used a fact-checker. Manhattan finished 7th last year, not 6th. It's also hard to see moving to 5th as predicted as a big leap forward.

The author seems highly optimistic on many of the teams (except the bottom 3 or so). Hopefully he's right and the league bounces back in the power ratings.

A lot of that depends on PG play of the bottom tier. If Aidas plays, Towns takes a step forward, and SPU finds a PG.....then maybe. I think most of the improvement though, will come from the top 4 teams being better than last year's top 4. That will bump the league up some. I don't think the bottom of the league will pull the MAAC up much. I think Monmouth could fall actually.

I think Monmouth could fall actually. Fall-- you think they could be worse than 1-12 in non conference? Conference power ranking is mainly determined by how the MAAC teams do in non conference games

yeah considering how well researched most of the article was the CoY was a bit of a odd choice Of all the awards, coy is the silliest in the preseason... it's about outperforming expectations how can they predict that?

I agree most of the improvement will come from the top 4 - but I think that middle tier will improve too. Manhattan and Monmouth figure to be much improved from the disasters they were last season. The bottom tier - Fairfield, Niagara, Marist etc. are all going to be 300+ teams in the power ratings, so that's going to be a boat anchor that keeps the MAAC in the 20s in the rankings. But if we can claw back to 20 or 21, that's a win given last season's debacle.

But if we can claw back to 20 or 21, that's a win given last season's debacle. Manhattan improving a bit, I get. Paulicap and Williams will defend, rebound, and score inside. However, their upside is somewhat capped by TOs and fouls I think. I do have them 5th. I just don't get how Monmouth improves much without a PG. Salnave is not a PG. He's bull in a china shop. Monmouth had the 336th ranked offense last year and went 10-8 in a down MAAC mainly cause of a 160 ranked defense. Rutherford was, by far, the biggest part of that defense and he's gone without being replaced. Quinn was probably their 3rd best defender...he's gone too though potentially replaced. Without a guard core that will take care of the ball or that elite perimeter defender...even after shooting better ....they may not improve much if at all. They simply have 1 less eligible guard this year...not good for a team whose guard play is questionable. As good a players as Salnave and Hammond may be...they don't fit well together. If you told me Aidas was gonna be healthy all year, I'd suggest FF had a chance for top 5 or 6. But, that looks like it will not be the case so they'll likely not be able to control the ball. Right now Canisius might end up sneaking in there if Majesty Brandon is a decent 2nd fiddle to Malik.

Masiello as Coach of the Year? The author lost a lot of credibility with me over that selection. Maybe he just didn't know how to spell Maciariello?
