I really like Luke's potential and how he seems to be having fun on the court. I can see him contributing this season for sure.

His physique and skills both look really good in this video. I like his attitude a lot too- he is playing hard but also clearly enjoying himself, and they included a couple shots of hustle plays/helping teammates out. He seems to genuinely love the game and be excited to be a Saint. Not necessarily RR skill-wise, but I think he appears to have a similar attitude and way that he carries himself, which may be what is sparking the comparisons. I'll take a team-first hard worker any day!

Woods wants nothing to do with the MAAC. Sure we already moved on from him. But I’d take Noah Hutchins from the Park School in a heartbeat. He can play. Noah Hutchins is somehow still available despite his slew of offers. Anyone care to offer a guess as to why Siena is not pursuing him instead of offering Brody Lawhun?

Am I the only one that doesn't see Luke as a 5 at all? I've always liked how he looks on video - he certainly produced (and won!) at the prior level. Glad to have him! He played the wing in high school, and occasionally would go into the post. I think him playing any minutes at the 5, unless they are going small ball, 5 out is a mistake.

I’m referring more to his looks!! Lol. He’s more advanced offensively than RR as a freshman coming in. Ryan developed that jumper over the years, but knew we needed him inside. I could see Luke getting Sammy’s minutes at the 5 if SF doesn’t pick it up. If we wanted to go small, he’d be the perfect 5.

I was the one who first “hyped” Sutherland on here. Don’t really want to go back and copy over the whole thread, but as I recall here’s what I really liked:
For a guy his size, he has great “ball skills”. He can grab and go and push the break himself, face up and drive to the rim, and make passes that most kids his size and age can’t make.
He’s a pretty good athlete too... dunks a bunch, can jump in the air and make tough finishes (see the highlights), move feet defensively, and get up and down.
The shooting stroke is smooth, and he can do it off the bounce or catch-and-shoot.
The defensive instincts to get in passing lanes for steals and get blocks off weak-side help and chasedowns.
To me, he’s pretty much the perfect modern 4 man in the MAAC. Big enough to guard bigger guys, quick enough to switch into guards. Best facing up, can stretch the floor, and impact game athletically. It will be interesting to see how much he can crack the rotation... in theory, I think he’d fit perfectly on our roster starting at the 4, but it may take him awhile to establish himself as more than a 10-12 minute a game guy as he adjusts to college ball. Will also say I absolutely love his attitude and energy on the floor... he is always talking and giving his teammates a boost.

He certainly is a four. I've been thinking the last few weeks as everyone has been speculating about the make-up and potential of our new roster. Very little discussion about Mr. Sutherland. I've thought from the very beginning that this young man is going to be an important part to our success over the next four years. He has a great attitude and looks to have a tremendous work ethic. That clip seems to confirm it. And last but not least, this kid is an athlete!! Everything we have seen on this young man seems to show that he also is a great teammate. A great addition to the chemistry in a locker room. I'm really excited about watching this player develop.

youtu.be/-Qht00zMJkYSome highlights of Luke’s Federation semifinal game against Christ the King, which featured 2021 5-star Moussa Cisse (the kid who blocked approximately 30 shots in this game). Luke was great, had 23 and 14 in this game. Showed a lot of the skills I mentioned in the above post, except the defensive stuff.

Sutherland looked as good as Cisse to me (though he's probably not). Luke's got a sweet stroke from 3 and gets up and down the court with surprising speed for a guy his size. I think Seymour has some serious competition at the 4, and had a better add to his game.
Amica was overmatched out there. Couldn't get anything when he drove inside and was rejected repeatedly. Why anyone would want to see that happen at Siena is beyond me.

Amica seems more like a PG than Hill though. I don’t have a significant objection to Amica just because of his height but we are targeting better PG’s in this class than Amica.

Ok so we’ve got our Degnan replacement. Funny, that was my thought exactly except Luke may be better finishing at the rim!

A true 5 is almost obsolete in today’s style of play. You could easily go with any combo of Burns Luke and Seymour with 3 guards or Harris Jr at the 3.
