Good for Sammy and another sign of Coach Christian's motivation strategy. It starts with building their confidence. We may chuckle about his admonition to make his bed, but it's the little things that count. Many leaders acknowledge this. "If you can't do the little things right, you'll never be able to do the big things right."

Ditto I82 ! JC is not only an x/o guy but a good teacher and salesman. Having been a teacher and a coach, you have to be a good salesman. What you have to sell is knowledge and you have to present it in a way that the student wants it as well.

why its a stretch for me...
If you simply just gave Friday the 5.8 minutes additional per game he is getting right now and assumed everything from last year would increase at the same rate as his minutes his stats would look like this:
10.9 pts 3.44 rbs .14 asts .29 blks .14 stls 1.58 fls .72 TO
but his stats actually look like this:
6.4 pts 2.4 rbs .4 asts .1 blks .0 stls 2.3 fls 1.0 TO
The ONLY statistical increase came in a mild increase in assists. The rest are all down. considering the increase in minutes. My belief is that he is getting minutes simply because they have no one else. Friday and Huerter along with Degnan are due to take the biggest hits in minutes with the addition of Burns. Perhaps this piece was written as either A) to do a piece on every siena player throughout the year or B) to give him a vote of confidence as Fisher is out. Either way... my expectations are NOT high. He is what he is ... a typical recruit from the last regime.

How do your numbers/opinion explain his 15 and 15 against Louisville on the road, probably the best team Siena has played in several years? Personally, I think Sammy has some pretty decent skills. I hope we'll see more of that as he gets more time on the floor with Evan being down for a while. But maybe you're right. Maybe the extra time will result in diminishing returns. For Sammy's sake, and for the team's sake, I hope that's not the case.

He had 10 offensive rebounds and most of them were off his own misses. He scored 15 points on 15 shots which is a really bad 1.00 PPS for the best game of your life.

SF, I am generally in agreement with you but not so much this time. I would agree that Sammy probably doesn't get into the game well at all but is probably best coming off the bench. There are a lot of good players who are that way, hence the 6th man award. There are others whose statistics can be great in the first half but who falter down the stretch. There are others whose best performances are when its pressure time. I think they have greater concentration then. Sammy was one who can't be waiting to be yanked because of a mistake. With the previous coach, he was always looking over his shoulder. He has the rest of this year to make a difference. This coach will know what is best.

I think the article may have reflected Sammy's greater scoring in the last 3 games (10, 8, 10) vs the previous 4 (2, 4, 2, 6) to say he's becoming a force. In any case, we should see what he can do with more extended minutes while Evan is out. But I'm wondering who else will get minutes at the 5 spot? Does the walk-on Tchougang have anything to offer?

Sammy is 8 games into the seasons with a new coach, new system and a completely transformed body. He as much as any of the Saints players is still trying to figure all this newness out. He has shown at times that he is able to contribute. I for one believe that he has the skills and size to be a pretty darn good player in the MAAC. I have faith in the current coaching staff and Sammy himself, that like most of his teammates, his best days in a Saints uniform are to come.

Have I missed something? Has there been an announcement about Evan? I think Orange was making an assumption (since Evan didn’t return against Harvard and was on the bench icing the ankle). I wouldn’t expect to hear anything about an injury till Wednesday or after the game (at the post game press conference) if he doesn’t play. JC doesn’t seem like the kind of coach that likes to give his opponents any info before it’s necessary. Just like when Kadeem wasn’t playing I made an assumption that he had a very minor injury/illness and was being rested. No official news came out either way as to the reason. I expect the same thing here with Evan’s status.

I thought I read somewhere earlier today that it was a severe ankle sprain and possible fracture. I can't find it now, but hopefully it's not that bad and he can give it a shot. Having sprained my ankles many times, I would expect him to still have some pain to deal with on Wednesday and not likely to play his usual minutes if at all.

Mark Singelais Verified account @marksingelais 5h5 hours ago More Siena coach Jamion Christian said Sr. F Evan Fisher "is doing everything he can" to get ready for St. Bonaventure on Wed. Said X-rays were negative on his lower right leg. Didn't commit to whether he'd start Sammy Friday if Fisher can't go, or might try something different.
